Scott Galloway is a well-known American professor, author, and podcaster. He is the Professor of Marketing at the New York University Stern School of Business, where he has taught since 2002, and is the founder of several companies, including L2, a business intelligence firm, and Section4, an online education platform.

He was a guest on Michael Smerconish's CNN Saturday morning show (12/15/2024), and talked about the other Axis of Evil, and it's right here in the USA, and who it is...the industrial food complex, the pharmaceutical industry, and the health insurance industry.
Here's a breakdown of the potential issues...
Industrial Food Complex:
  • Unhealthy Food Products: This industry is often criticized for producing highly processed, nutrient-poor foods that contribute to obesity, diabetes, and other chronic diseases.
  • Lobbying and Regulation: The industry has significant influence on food policies and regulations, which can hinder efforts to promote healthier diets.
Pharmaceutical Industry:
  • High Drug Prices: Pharmaceutical companies are frequently criticized for setting excessively high prices for medications, especially those treating chronic conditions.
  • Direct-to-Consumer Advertising: DTC advertising can encourage unnecessary drug use and drive up healthcare costs.
  • Lobbying and Regulation: The industry also lobbies heavily to influence drug pricing and regulatory policies.
Health Insurance Industry:
  • Limited Coverage: Many health insurance plans have high deductibles and co-pays, making it difficult for individuals to afford necessary care.
  • Administrative Costs: A significant portion of healthcare spending goes towards administrative costs, such as billing and insurance paperwork.
  • Profit-Driven Model: Some argue that the insurance industry's focus on profits can lead to decisions that prioritize financial interests over patient care.
By labeling these industries as an "axis of evil," Galloway is likely suggesting that they work together to maintain a system that prioritizes profits over public health. This system, he argues, contributes to rising healthcare costs, poor health outcomes, and increased reliance on medication.

What do you think?

We've known this for 100 years ... it's called capitalism ... if this Galloway idiot is just "suggesting" this, then he's a loon ... "profit before people" ... when did he get off the boat? ...

I would argue this system provides for more stable pension plans, increased financial health and a decreased reliance on witchcraft ... the way things are is very good for the shareholders ... we can feel sorry for the Middle Class tax-payer, but these poor folk have no other purpose in life but to pay taxes and insurance premiums ... if God thought you could handle wealth, he wouldn't have made you poor ... now would He? .....

...and, probably very good for the company employees, too. And, the principal job of all CEOs is to increase the shareholder's stock value, no? Maybe, highly questionable good for the customers paying the high premiums for their health insurance....that seems to be where most of the issues/complaints are coming from, imho.

Poor quality service for the price ... we're better off paying cash for medical services ... $50 a minute for an ER doctor to tell you to eat better and get exercise ... maybe we shouldn't have skipped 9th Grade Health so much ..

100% right about skipping that class...might never have gotten into whatever health problems developed.

Natural result of letting financial speculators take over literally every industry in not only the U.S. but globally as well. They eventually bankrupt everything they touch.

I think you should tell us which food this is, specifically
There are so many kinds of, and brands of these ultra-processed foods. All you have to do is walk down the packaged-food aisles of any supermarket, close your eyes, reach for something, and odds are, what get is something in that category, imho.

As far as drugs go...
It's the brokers (middle men) who are getting the money out of the drugs and not the pharmaceutical companies themselves. They make nothing and produce nothing....but make billions.

A shame you can't name this ultra processed food that is causing both heart disease and diabetes

Just read the multi-ingredient lists on those items you pick.
Even that is not as transparent as possible.
Loaf of bread....wheat is an ingredient. A major ingredient.
What it doesn't say about the wheat is that it's a GMO wheat that is unavailable on the open market. You cannot even go to a restaurant supply house and purchase that flour....it's grown, owned, and utilized by mass production bakery conglomerates. (Nabisco, Keebler, Hostess, Wonder, and etc)

A loaf of sandwich bread no longer molds and goes bad. (Tastes like cotton candy by comparison with real bread)

Real bread molds and is stale in 3 days. No preservatives in it or the "packaging"/crust. (I owned a SMALL bakery....I know exactly how to make most breads including Pullman breads and still do instead of buying bread)

Those frozen PBJ sandwiches called "Crustables" have so many toxins in them it's a wonder how they got through the FDA.

Yes, our convenience foods are killing us. EVERYONE USES THEM. From jar spaghetti sauce to the dried spaghetti noodles....to granola bars and avocado spread for avocado toast....you are consuming processed foods DAILY.

Don't even get me started on Chocolate Chip cookies. Chips Ahoy is only one culprit. Subway sandwich shops are another. Even the grocery store bakery doesn't make their cookies or cakes from scratch....or the frosting. Mixes are just as bad if not worse.

Culinary skills in America have disappeared in most households. EVERY meal now contains at least one processed food if not the entire meal.

My doctor, as good as he is, will suggest a prescription first and then the other options after I ask about them. He has given me the usual nutritional advice I should follow, but given the choice, I usually just skip meals.

Big pharma can't hide behind the pandemic EUA any longer and they have severely damaged their reputation, as have the FDA and CDC among others.

Mass-produced factory food is cheap and unhealthy. Intensive organic farming on small privately owned plots with well-maintained soil is superior to corporate farming with petrochemicals.

15th post
Profits over people has been the system since the nation's inception. Just figuring that out now?

I asked which food is heart disease and diabetes, as the OP mentions, is causing heart disease and diabetes and nobody can name one single food.

That is very good to know, that nobody in this thread has the vaguest idea what they are talking about.

Well I would say many food dyes, nitrates, nitrates, hydrogenated oils, sugars, are just a start. The glyophosphate in our nasty breakfast cereals is no help. Throw some pfas from our lively industrial complex as well. Tip of the iceberg.

You saved me...a great concise/detailed display of a lot of the culprit ingredients, thanx!
