The politics of calling this disease the Chinese Virus or the Wuhan Flu and other racially derogatory names is inaccurate relative to evidence scientists have seen.

The COVID-19 Virus May Have Been in Humans For Years, Study Suggests

As COVID-19 has hitchhiked around the globe, causing lockdowns, pneumonia and fear, scientists have been racing to determine where the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus has come from.

While we don't have all the answers yet - including whether it came from an animal reservoir - a new analysis has definitively put to rest the conspiracies that claim it's a lab-made disease.

The study raises some interesting possibilities regarding the origin of the new coronavirus. One of the scenarios suggests the virus may have been circulating harmlessly in human populations for quite a while before it became the pandemic that's now stopped the world in its tracks.

"It is possible that a progenitor of SARS-CoV-2 jumped into humans, acquiring [new genomic features] through adaptation during undetected human-to-human transmission," the team from the US, UK and Australia writes in the study.

"Once acquired, these adaptations would enable the pandemic to take off and produce a sufficiently large cluster of cases."

The researchers analysed genomic data available from SARS-CoV-2 and other similar coronaviruses, showing that the receptor-binding domain (RBD) sections of SARS-CoV-2 spike proteins were so effective at binding to human cells, they had to be caused by natural selection.

"By comparing the available genome sequence data for known coronavirus strains, we can firmly determine that SARS-CoV-2 originated through natural processes," said one of the researchers, immunologist Kristian Andersen at Scripps Research.

"Two features of the virus, the mutations in the RBD portion of the spike protein and its distinct backbone, rules out laboratory manipulation as a potential origin for SARS-CoV-2."

"Chinese" and "Wuhan" are racist names even as adjectives?! How about the African National Congress?

Enough of the political correctness horseshit, it's getting us killed.

China lied out their ass about this mess. As late as Jan. 12 the WHO told everyone there was no human to human transmission and now look where we are. China lied to us about how bad it is and is still lying about how bad it is.

China needs this turd hung around its neck. China needs to be held to account. Their human rights record is pathetic like all Socialist/Communist countries.

Why are you packing water for them? Are you a communist?

Kung Flu has cost this world over 10 Trillion dollars in economic activity so far and will kill a million people.

Where was the first break-out? That's your answer. It doesn't matter if it's been circulating for years, what matters is where the first explosion happened, and that was Wuhan. Hence, the Wuhan virus. It's not racist as you so desperately need it to be, any more than the Spanish Flu or the German Measles are racist. It's simply an acknowledgement of where it first gained attention.

Can anyone name anyone that was helped merely by calling it “Wuhan flu” or “Chinese flu”?

How is anyone helped merely by the naming of any disease? Not everything is binary. Things can be more than just "helped" or "bad."

True. No one is helped by labeling it anything in particular.

But I’d say there’s evidence that people are harmed by labeling it such.

Please identify any racially deragotory terms that has been used to identify the Chinese virus as you claim, and identify which of the five races recognized by the US Census was called out.

I know EXACTLY which flu you refer to when you say Chinese flu, it is a great way to identify it.

Well the idiots that are expressing race-based aggression towards Asian people are most certainly aware that the outbreak originated in China--everybody in the world knows that unless they were literally born yesterday--so there's no way anyone can possibly say with even a modicum of certainty that those people are acting the way they are simply because someone has called it the "Wuhan virus," or that they'd be acting any differently if nobody called it that. We're talking about people who already harbor those predisposed racist opinions, and since they blame China for their uncomfortable living circumstances right now, they're acting like tantrum-throwing children, directing their frustration and ire at anyone with Asian features who they already have disdain for. People don't just "become" racist and aggressive towards Asians because someone labels a virus "Chinese virus." That conclusion lacks logical rigor nearly to the same extent as the rational disconnect of the people it's criticizing.

You think they would not have been harmed if it were named the virus from heaven ?

People know where it came from. That isn't in dispute.

You are making assumptions that also lack logical rigor. Although you label these people as idiots, you also assume they know for certain the origin of the virus.

Given there is zero benefit to labeling it as such, and possible harm, we should err on the safe side.

People are better off knowing that it REALLY IS the Chinese virus, since Asians like the Chinese people are in a much higher risk group. Asians have the number of ace2 receptors in their lungs that the Chinese virus needs, which makes them 5 times more likely to become infected. If you know what's good for you, stay away from Asians. Put the race crap on hold for long enough to see the science.
