An Army Of White Prison Guards Beat Black Inmate To Death

And once the inmate started bleeding, they donned surgical gloves and continued the beating. One of the guards washed his bloody hand in the sink.
That's so sad. God must render unto them ten fold what they gave to that young man.

That's irrelevant

It's not irrelevant, in the same way self-defense is different from just setting some random person on fire in the subway.

Doesn't excuse what the officers did, but changes the charges.

More is revealed.

The officers should be charged, and I suspect they will.

But also:

We ask cops, teachers, prison guards and etc to do entirely too much these days. We need to OPEN THE ASYLUMS again. Expecting cops, teachers, and prisons to deal with significantly mentally ill people is criminal in itself.

You could not be more wrong.

When someone is handcuffed self defense is off off the table.

No, it's called the justice system. It's why we have different charges, like involuntary manslaughter, manslaughter and murder in different degrees. It's why we have judges and juries.

Hello?

He was resisting--kicking and etc. I am NOT justifying what the guards did. But pretending there is no gradations in charges is just...

Does anyone know what the guy did? Maybe he attacked a guard?
It's disgusting to see you pigs trying to blame the victim.

Brooks was being transferred from Marcy prison. Three of the guards "escorting" him are under investigation for brutalizing inmates there, including leaving one man disfigured and one in a wheelchair.

Stop looking for ways to blame the dead man.

Holy shit. Your excuses are sickening.

The man only kicked his legs in a reflex after BEING KICKED IN THE BALLS AT FULL FORCE.

Asshole.

Stop. Blaming. The. Victim.

See post 88.

Brooks was being transferred by at least three men accused of beating other prisoners.

Oh, got it. So the dude who shot the healthcare CEO in the back, he should hang and we can never mention the rage some feel over healthcare. Is that the standard now? Just one thread after another crying about the millionaire CEO who was a "victim"?

Fascinating

What. The. Fuck. Is. Wrong with you?

Take your red herrings elsewhere.

Asshole.

Here is you "blaming the victim"--according to you, we should address no circumstances that cause these atrocities, just cry about the victim.

You're not good at this

UnitedHealthcare has the highest claim denial rate among insurance companies, rejecting 32% of submitted claims compared to the industry average of 16%.

Thompson, 50, was a father of two. He became CEO of UnitedHealthcare in 2021 and helped the company bring in $281 billion in profits in 2023. Between salary and other benefits, he was estimated to have more than $10 million in compensation last year.

At least three of the New York prison guards implicated in the savage beating death of a handcuffed man had been accused of participating in similar attacks on prisoners across the state.

Two of the corrections officers and a sergeant accused in the death of Robert Brooks, an inmate at the Marcy Correctional Facility in central New York, were previously named in federal lawsuits filed by prisoners accusing them of brutal attacks that left one man disfigured and another in a wheelchair.

A lawyer for one of the injured men drew a line from the earlier accusations of violence to the attack this month.

“The fact that they failed to rein in these officers that they knew had beaten someone else is a direct contributor to Mr. Brooks’s death,” said Katie Rosenfeld, the lawyer. She criticized the New York State Department of Corrections and Community Supervision for fighting her client’s lawsuit for four years.

This same foolish rhetoric is spoken when a female is raped. They will say she caused it. She did something that caused the man to beat her and rape her.

We can't look for causes of this; we must simply wring our hands and cry about the victim.

Oh wait, here's you finding motivators for criminal behavior:

I 100 percent agree poverty is the main driver of crime.

!!!!!!

We can see the inmate on video assaulting the guards. What are you talking about?

And again: I am NOT absolving the guards. I'm commenting that we expect too much of public servants, and it leads to burnout, hardening, etc-that leads to THESE CRIMINAL ACTIONS

OMG this is not you talking about that poor victim's bad insurance is it? HOW DARE YOU BLAME THE VICTIM

Actually UnitedHealthcare is the provider for the military's health care system. Tricare. That's government run health care.

And I can tell you from personal experience, I have had one bitch of a time with United over the years. I recall once telling a UnitedHealthcare person I wanted to blow up their fucking building.

That was prior to 9/11.

Also, even Medicare is managed by private companies.

So your premise is totally false.

The guards know the protocol part of their training. Just like bankers know the protocol when being robbed is to give the robber the money. The guards know to do as the cops do and get the person to the ground and cuff them. That's it!

Murding is not apart of the protocol at all no matter what an inmate does wrong.

I'm not disputing that and have said over and over they should be charged.

HOWEVER

What leads to the circumstances where prison guards will stand around and watch this? Is it just hiring terrible guards, or are they getting hardened and burned out?

Asking questions like this is not "blaming the victim". It is possible, even rational, to say "This is horrid and those guards were wrong. But what leads to this?"

Hello?
