Zone1 An apology for my generation of Baby boomers.

/----/ "Trump troubles early on by not renting to blacks"
I stopped reading at your first lie. All of New York City's apartments were segregated and redlined in the 1960s and 70s. I know; I lived there. Why? Because NY liberals didn't want to live in the same building as Blacks. Secondly, DJT was a junior officer in the Trump organization. His father made the decisions.
Donald Trump sued the City of Palm Beach when he bought a segregated club, Mar-a-Lago, to open it to Jews & Blacks. But, alas, you already knew that.

Case Summary

This case was brought against Fred and Donald Trump, and their real estate company, in 1973 in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of New York.

In October 1973, the Justice Department filed this civil rights case in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of New York (federal court in Brooklyn) against Fred Trump, Donald Trump, and their real estate company. The complaint alleged that the firm had committed systemic violations of the Fair Housing Act of 1968 in their many complexes--39 buildings, between them containing over 14,000 apartments. The allegations included evidence from black and white "testers" who had sought to rent apartments; the white testers were told of vacancies; the black testers were not, or were steered to apartment complexes with a higher proportion of racial minorities. The complaint also alleged that Trump employees had placed codes next to housing applicant names to indicate if they were black.

Would their replacements have been any better? The British decided killing Hitler during the war was not in their interests.
So you are saying it's conditional? Or are you sticking to your absolute statement?

Until you offer an example that would change my mind. Making martyrs of your enemy is generally counterproductive.

It's not my job to change your mind. My job is to bust your chops when you make absolute statements.

Don't presume to speak for your generation. I'm a liberal, Dem, baby-boomer and I know lots of folk like me and NONE of us approve of violence of ANY kind for ANY reason. Period.

If your community has seemed to move left maybe it is really you moving right and losing touch with mainstream America?
Mainstream America is moving back to a center right ideology in a big way

The pendulum does seem to be swinging in that direction.
Even the population is shifting from democrat states to GOP states in the millions. That means in the 2030 census democrats will lose over 10 seats in the house and the GOP gets them.

Unless they continue to vote Dem and turn Red states Purple. Just sayin'.

No, it answered the question but, never mind, it is supremely unimportant.
I say it didn't and since it was my question, I'm the one that matters. You could have said you were Jewish or Catholic. As I'm almost certain you were raised as one or the other. But instead you chose to play games and waste both our time.

I did not follow Charlie Kirk. I am a 78-year-old Baby Boomer and Kirk was about the age of my oldest grandchildren. I had seen him on Fox News a few times which I stopped watching after they fired Tucker Carlson. I am very troubled by my generation particularly the liberal aspect of it. Some older liberals have found their leftist policies out of favor of late, and they are becoming more accepting of violence to recapture the politics that supports their worldview. Older liberal Baby Boomers are becoming disturbingly comfortable with assassinations nowadays to keep the party going. The happy hour population of my small leftist city has grown increasingly confused over the direction of the rest of the country and they turn to local liberal media for the solace that they are right while everyone else is wrong.

What is of particular concern is the use of political assassinations by the Democratic Party out of desperation as the party has gone so far off the rails as to be unrecognizable to reasonable citizens. The local liberal newspaper in the city has been ginning up violence against political opposition and it is read mostly by older liberal Boomers in the community. It characterized protests after the corrupted and stolen 2020 presidential election as an insurrection. The city has corporate radio stations much different from what I recall from years ago. A liberal radio personality has a five-thousand-watt microphone and a morning talk program. It is used to sway opinions to the left despite the big picture that is becoming increasingly more conservative.

The city mind has changed steadily since a former lesbian partnered State College president here killed a young woman in 1991 and was found guilty of negligent homicide in 1992. The culprit never spent a day behind bars though she was sentenced to five to ten years in jail. That much is known. The case was appealed to the NH Supreme Court but finding details is difficult because records were quickly buried by the local media to cover for the college. A lot of pertinent information is hidden behind paywalls and veiled in archives difficult to access by researchers. That was purposely done.

The health of the city is poor particularly with respect to community dementia brought on by the city lifestyle of alcohol and drug abuse. This may account for the liberal voting record of the city which makes it a strong leftist enclave in the state. It would be interesting to find out how many prescribed drugs average Boomers here are on along with the copious amounts of alcohol they drink and marijuana they smoke.

On odd aspect of the city health picture is the medical center’s adoption of DEI programs. This makes the city’s hospital a political medical center. Based on the health history of average local citizens it is not surprising that assassinations now seem like a good idea to many voters. The city is a little off the beaten path and many liberal Baby Boomers know that they will be unlikely to walk in front of a bullet themselves. People like Charlie Kirk are seen by liberal Baby Boomers as a threat to their way of life. So, agitating killers to get on rooftops and take out troublemakers is viewed as a valid attempt to keep the party going.

I never agreed with the political bent of the city, but I never thought that evil like this could dominate in here. And make no mistake, these people are evil whether they admit it or not.

The situation is not hopeless. There are those among us who strongly disagree with the way things have come down here. We want the best for following generations and will help any way we can.

Once again, I apologize for my generation.
My mother is your generation. Back in the 60s and 70's she was a "lberal" of those times and grew up in a Democrat household. After Obama's second term she left those old labels in the dust and became decidedly more conservative in her values. It only took me until I was about 35 to cut myself off from the modern Democrats and liberals. And it was Obama's that incited that in me too. I actually voted for him the first time. It took just a few months to realize what a mistake that was

My bad, I thought would prefer an accurate answer.

This is a great 18 minutes on what will happen to America after all the Boomers have died. Very interesting and I agree completely. Your thoughts?

I've always said the Boomer generation had it the best. Anyone, even uneducated blue collar Americans could get "rich" in America. And when I say rich I mean being able to retire at 65 or younger and maintain your lifestyle living off the money you saved after working for 30 years. These days are gone.

And the boomers won't retire. Once they do it will open up a lot of opportunities. But we aren't having as many kids as their parents had so will we have enough people to fill these roles?

With all of them dying or moving into assisted living facilities, housing prices should come down because there will be a large supply of houses on the market.

Jobs in healthcare are going to be big in America in the next coming decades with all of the boomers getting old.

Many young people feel like Capitalism is failing them. A lot of them are open to universal basic incomes, socialism even communism. It's not their fault what we've been doing for 100 years is no longer working for the new generations. Can't afford college, healthcare, a home, to get married, have kids. Many of them are opting NOT to have kids. No pensions like the boomers got. Cuts to medicaid and social security going bankrupt. Their parents are spending their inheritance.

Get a job, work hard, got married, have a family, this might not exist anymore.

Millenials and Gen X are not liking the world Boomers have handed us.

Boomers were/are the wealthiest generation. This led to unpresidented consumerism. Steady work that delivered a good paycheck. Even blue collar.

Today how are the boomers doing compared to the rest of us?

the 400 wealthiest individuals hold a combined wealth of $6.6 trillion, which is more than the bottom 50% of U.S. households, who have a combined wealth of approximately $4.1 trillion. This wealth disparity is growing, with the top 1% of households controlling a larger share of the nation's wealth than the entire middle class, according to recent data.
