I did not follow Charlie Kirk. I am a 78-year-old Baby Boomer and Kirk was about the age of my oldest grandchildren. I had seen him on Fox News a few times which I stopped watching after they fired Tucker Carlson. I am very troubled by my generation particularly the liberal aspect of it. Some older liberals have found their leftist policies out of favor of late, and they are becoming more accepting of violence to recapture the politics that supports their worldview. Older liberal Baby Boomers are becoming disturbingly comfortable with assassinations nowadays to keep the party going. The happy hour population of my small leftist city has grown increasingly confused over the direction of the rest of the country and they turn to local liberal media for the solace that they are right while everyone else is wrong.

What is of particular concern is the use of political assassinations by the Democratic Party out of desperation as the party has gone so far off the rails as to be unrecognizable to reasonable citizens. The local liberal newspaper in the city has been ginning up violence against political opposition and it is read mostly by older liberal Boomers in the community. It characterized protests after the corrupted and stolen 2020 presidential election as an insurrection. The city has corporate radio stations much different from what I recall from years ago. A liberal radio personality has a five-thousand-watt microphone and a morning talk program. It is used to sway opinions to the left despite the big picture that is becoming increasingly more conservative.

The city mind has changed steadily since a former lesbian partnered State College president here killed a young woman in 1991 and was found guilty of negligent homicide in 1992. The culprit never spent a day behind bars though she was sentenced to five to ten years in jail. That much is known. The case was appealed to the NH Supreme Court but finding details is difficult because records were quickly buried by the local media to cover for the college. A lot of pertinent information is hidden behind paywalls and veiled in archives difficult to access by researchers. That was purposely done.

The health of the city is poor particularly with respect to community dementia brought on by the city lifestyle of alcohol and drug abuse. This may account for the liberal voting record of the city which makes it a strong leftist enclave in the state. It would be interesting to find out how many prescribed drugs average Boomers here are on along with the copious amounts of alcohol they drink and marijuana they smoke.

On odd aspect of the city health picture is the medical center’s adoption of DEI programs. This makes the city’s hospital a political medical center. Based on the health history of average local citizens it is not surprising that assassinations now seem like a good idea to many voters. The city is a little off the beaten path and many liberal Baby Boomers know that they will be unlikely to walk in front of a bullet themselves. People like Charlie Kirk are seen by liberal Baby Boomers as a threat to their way of life. So, agitating killers to get on rooftops and take out troublemakers is viewed as a valid attempt to keep the party going.

I never agreed with the political bent of the city, but I never thought that evil like this could dominate in here. And make no mistake, these people are evil whether they admit it or not.

The situation is not hopeless. There are those among us who strongly disagree with the way things have come down here. We want the best for following generations and will help any way we can.

Once again, I apologize for my generation.

/—-/ I’m 74 and agree with you. I am dumbfounded when I see Boomers protesting Kirk or Trump repeating the left wing talking points yet unable to back up any of their stupid claims.
“Trump’s a racist.”
“Give me an example of his racism.”
“Well, I don’t have a list handy.”
“Not one thing comes to mind?”
“You’re a racist for defending a racist BLAH BLAH BLAH.”

Don't presume to speak for your generation. I'm a liberal, Dem, baby-boomer and I know lots of folk like me and NONE of us approve of violence of ANY kind for ANY reason. Period.

If your community has seemed to move left maybe it is really you moving right and losing touch with mainstream America?

I am almost 70 and in poor health.

I hope I die soon...I can't take this goofy stuff much more.

I do not know if it is true but I read a teacher was showing kids Charlie being assassinated.

I was in (like) 3 rd grade at a Catholic School when Mother Superior announced JFK had been assinated. We went to mass and than was sent home early.

I remember it like 'it was yesterday.

The hippies started our protesting culture, and they might have had a good gripe going against the war in Vietnam. But they were mostly dirty, lazy slackers who smoked too much weed. "Far out man". I think a lot of these people became unredeemable losers, hooked on any good protest that might bring back a glimmer of their heyday.

A gross generalization so here is mine. I missed the hippy hey-day, but in the early '70s I had many weed-smoking peers. They generally fell into two groups where I lived, Brooklyn. Catholics and Jews, very few Protestants for some reason in my neighborhood. Catholics went to Catholic School, Jews went to Public School. The Catholics got some college but must ended up as postmen or other blue-collar jobs. Jews generally ended up with advanced degrees and got white collar jobs.

I had a group of weed-smoking friends that went to Columbia University and most of them ended up as lawyers and doing very well.

So what you are saying is that weed brought Jews and Catholics together?

So which group were you in? The Jews or the Catholics?

It wasn’t so much the war as it was slavery aka The Draft to be forced to go and fight in (and quite possibly die or get fucked up) the military escapade known as the Vietnam War.

Trump troubles early on by not renting to blacks, even those who could afford his apartments.

The way he spoke of Haitians.

The way Trump called for the deaths of the wrongly convicted, Central Park 5.

The cruel manner he is capturing and deporting illegals... Obama still deported more illegals than trump during this subhuman deportation round up of Trump, and not a single one of us had to witness masked mob of men grabbing people and dragging them away....who the heck would ever want to vacation here again?

The way Trump has cancelled programs protecting the poor...

The way Trump is mouthing off on DEI and the way he is shutting it down and erasing it, in an awful racist commenting manner...

The way he is removing black history, like pictures of the scars on whipped slaves from the Smithsonian...

The way he goes after the black women prosecutors he faces.

The way he went after Kaepernick...

These are just off of the top of my head...without any research. Any one, likely a nothing burger, but together, it adds up in peoples eyes...

Weed smokers are not the same as hippies. And objecting to the war didn't make you a hippy either. Hippies were dirty, lazy, anti establishment slackers. They were good at screwing and grooving. But like you said, plenty of successful people smoked weed. The thing with hippies was, they smoked weed all the time. Whatever else they did (not much) they were stoned while they did it. Too much THC-no good.

Ok, so assassinating Hitler, Stalin or Pol Pot would have been a no no?
Would their replacements have been any better? The British decided killing Hitler during the war was not in their interests.

Your definition of hippy is not mine.

/----/ "Trump troubles early on by not renting to blacks"
I stopped reading at your first lie. All of New York City's apartments were segregated and redlined in the 1960s and 70s. I know; I lived there. Why? Because NY liberals didn't want to live in the same building as Blacks. Secondly, DJT was a junior officer in the Trump organization. His father made the decisions.
Donald Trump sued the City of Palm Beach when he bought a segregated club, Mar-a-Lago, to open it to Jews & Blacks. But, alas, you already knew that.
