Americans traveling abroad resort to "Flag Jacking"

As long as the American dollar spigot is wide open, they'll put up with anything.

The "spigot"?

Trump destroyed our largest foreign aid organization, the Agency for International Development.

He cut UN funding in half.

He refuses to use our leverage to aid NATO in defeating Russia. Indeed, he takes the invader's side.

He refuses to even acknowledge the genocide that Isreal is committing in Gaza.

What spigot are you talking about?

American Exceptionalism - Conservatives embrace it, Liberals apologize for it. As for the “flag jackers” pretending to be Canadian, why pretend? Call Canada home, not US. We don’t need you.

Errr, this has been going on since I was a kid, this was a well known approach by backpackers in Europe going back many decades as they would wear Canadian flags on their bags, this was long before even GWB was president.

The world has always hated America since you believe in individual liberty and economic innovation, in addition you exude over confidence often arrogance in some peoples eyes. I dont have low self esteem in the face of confidence so this never bothered me personally. However, freedom bothers foreign governments who try and control everything.
Get ******* real...

Americans are not hated, Democrats are very welcome and European generally have the opinion that we don't live fun that Authoritarian hellhole..
**** your freedom shit, Americans know they can come to Europe and say anything they like about the government and there won't be a bunch on fat ****** in masks outside to bring them to an Florida Gulag... No need for ID, you have the freedom to say what you like when you like...
Goto UK or Ireland and the cops aren't even armed... They receive years more education to do there job and know the law a lot better... No point having a Constitution if the law officer don't know it...

Actually most Europeans can't normally tell the difference between US and Canadian Accents... It is a bit difficult for them... Canadians are quick to correct usually followed by an apology from the European for their ignorance and possible insult, then a joke...

I have a lot of friends and family overseas. Their lives are far simpler, and (most importantly) they're far more contented, than the maniacs running around in the red hats.
I think overseas patriotism is not putting your hand on your chest and humping a flag...

I most countries the definition of patriotism is how do we treat our weakest in society... We look after all our fellow country men/women... To object to things is your civic duty and it is the responsibility of a citizen to be informed of both sides of a debate.

Yes we differ and there is pressure from Social Media which in Europe is looking like it is getting a shorter leash...

US Patriotism is considered superficial aboard... It is about individualism rather than the betterment of society... You can succeed (and social mobility is higher in EU than US) but understand your obligations to society.
The mask of US as the land of opportunity is slipping... You have a better chance to move up (and down) in society in EU than in US...

Why would anyone pretend to be the other barbarians ar the gates? It's mind-boggling stuff.

We've so completely misapplied capitalism that it's clear to all that we may not recover.

And now we're heading towards this bizarre, predatory, authoritarian theocracy.

Can't blame our former friends for that.

When you allow USA Leftist big-mouthed "me first" Karens' to travel abroad shooting mouths, pushing children bad things happen. "Are they all like that" wonder the French?

Mac&Cheese finally squeezed Trump into it on page 3? Then hit again with "we (Trump) mis-applied" capitalism? What the Sam heck is happening in here?

The one that requires us to perpetually grow our debt load to the point it all collapses and the world is plunged into a global depression the likes of which we have not seen before. That spigot.

Tell us which you prefer:

1. We start cutting back on spending until we can get a handle on the deficit and start actually reducing debt, thus allowing us to continue being the most generous nation on the face of the earth.
2. We continue down the path we're on, racking up unsustainable debt that eventually crashes the entire system and everyone suffers, a lot.

Won't stop MAGA trying to blame everyone on the planet except themselves...

US was tricked... They were told they want pure Capitalism... Pure Capitalism is charging $1000 per month for insulin that cost $2 to make..
Pure Capitalism runs on the theory of perfect competition which is basically nonsense... Every market has barriers and regulations of some point... That insulin has to verified and licensed that it is what it says it is, otherwise there is no standards, quality checks,... Basically a lot of dead diabetics... Don't think paying more means better quality, just means better profit margin (probably the same stuff)...

The next best option is regulated capitalism OR social democracy... They are effectively the same thing... that is how all the first world countries are run, US is not exceptional in this, they have government programs just like Europe, they have rules just like Europe...

The big difference I think is that EU has a more long term strategy while US is a lot shorter view of the world especially MAGA... We say it all the time, MAGA doesn't really understand consequences or even why thing like USAID, WTO, UN... are there... They don't seem to understand the history of why things are the way they are...

They were told by the voices they trust that regulation is the bane of capitalism. The FACT is, regulation is a CRITICAL and REQUIRED COMPONENT of capitalism. Guardrails must exist in "free market" environment.

Can regulations go too far, and/or can they be redundant and inefficient? Yes. Of course. And that's where careful, informed and honest collaboration between government and business is so important.

But this shallow, ignorant, pseudo-libertarian "government is the problem" crap is absurd. And if we didn't learn the need for effective regulation after the 2008 Meltdown, we may never learn it.

“After reviewing the details of the unserious and ridiculous demands being made by the Minority Radical Left Democrats in return for their Votes to keep our thriving Country open, I have decided that no meeting with their Congressional Leaders could possibly be productive,” Trump wrote on Truth Social.

Mac1958

We are close to reaching the point where Americans (The Ugly American, 1958) are every bit as reviled as their Zionist masters.

Actually, they're more likely to ask that about folks like you.
