(CNSNews.com) - In his dissent from the Supreme Court’s 5-4 decision in Obergefell v. Hodges, which declared that same-sex marriage is a right, Justice Samuel Alito said the court had falsely likened opposition to same-sex marriage to racism and that its decision “will be used to vilify Americans unwilling to assent to the new orthodoxy.”
Alito warned that in the wake of the court’s ruling, Americans who dare to publicly express views in favor the traditional understanding that marriage is between a man and a woman will risk recrimination.
“I assume that those who cling to old beliefs will be able to whisper their thoughts in the recesses of their homes, but if they repeat those views in public, they will risk being labeled as bigots and treated as such by governments, employers, and schools,” Alito wrote.
“By imposing its own views on the entire country,” he said, “the majority facilitates the marginalization of the many Americans who have traditional ideas.”
Here is a key excerpt from Alito’s dissent:
Pretty soon these bastards will start arresting people that speak our minds. I hate liberals as they're nothing more then fascist.
Hyperbole and hysteria.
And I call bullshit on you. There is a certain segment of the gay community that has a mega hard on for joe average breeders. This happy dancey everyone is like Elton John bullshit is a joke.
Get a grip.
Every group has it's fringe element - wither it's that certain segment of the gay community or a certain segment of the hetero community that has a hard on for gay people who simply want to celebrate a commitment to their life partnership.
Get a grip.
I rarely say this to someone I normally agree with on a variety of issues.
Let me say this now. And let me make this very clear. Go **** yourself if you are going to judge me on one comment.
Up here I fought for gay rights on many levels. When I left my first husband and those who have followed me thru the years on various boards can attest to this life of mine, I ended up back in TO in a very gay world called Isabella.

Oh it was awesome.
An old friend of mine from Hamilton just happened to be the landlord of one of THE most hottest apartment buildings in Toronto (all true art deco I even had a small fireplace) and it was gay central. It was fabulous. I could go dancing at Davids, never get hit on, share make up and clothes (I was working at Le Chateau at the time) be straight and still be cool. AND everyone helped me out because in the early 70's you see, I was as estranged from the normal world as my friends because to be a divorcee was to be a ..................fill in the blank.
One woman told me straight out before a date with her son that was a mega soccer player in Toronto at the time that she wished death on me because I was a divorced woman with a child and I would never be allowed to marry her son.
HEY. IT WAS REALLY THAT WAY.
And come on here. I was in the music business for crying out loud. Geeze louise the movers and the shakers up here were two of the biggest gays on the planet that helped me out every step of the way. RPM and the Junos were founded by them. Walt and Stan.
Do I believe in gay marriage? I'm on my third marriage as a hetero. Finally found my soul mate.
I'm happy if one person just finds another and wants to make a commitment. And I have personally known many in the LGBT community that have kept it real with or without the ring over many a year.
I'm going to let Jehovah figure out the rest.
But I am sick to death of the heterophobia ok? Everyone just linking anyone one who isn't 100 percent ready to be a flower boy at a wedding as a homophobic asshole.
There's a lot of shades of grey out here and a lot of people trying to understand and having one step in faith and recognizing their humanity as well.
