Here's a poem sent to me by a Veteran
Steven Batts, who performed this in 2006
on stage to fellow soldiers in Iraq. I think he says it best:
============================================
What Are You Fighting For

My fellow Americans decided to protest me
Well, I agree to some degree, because we’re all free
Free to peaceably assemble for anything that resembles a real cause
That might cause harm or just because
They are protected by the laws of our Constitution
So I have to have a strong constitution
In the presence of infernal solutions
Or external resolutions for my internal conflicts
My being sometimes contradicts itself at my heart’s core

You see, I’m a big fan of Michael Moore
But he could never be the Greatest
Ali sacrificed his whole career, because he was so sincere
If you want to stop war, you have to stop the profiteers
I fight through my fears, so I would have gladly fought in Rwanda
I can even respect Jane Fonda for protesting the Vietnam War
But what are you fighting for

You say I’m fighting for oil, because I remain loyal to my native soil
But what make my blood boil or chaps my hide
You protest me with the freedom that I provide
No, I’m not Jack Nicholson standing on the wall
But I’ve seen more than a few good men fall in their youth
Yeah, I’m going to say it, you can’t handle the truth
The truth is, you brought your ass to the protest with the gas
You say I’m fighting for; what are you fighting for

But before you talk, get your punk ass out and walk
I’m prepared to give my life
What are you willing to sacrifice
I’ve endured long flights, depressing sights, warning sounds
Mortar rounds, sand storms and I still wear my uniform proudly
I’m not afraid to say it loudly to all that persist
I insist you take this list of the things that I’ve missed

Family reunions, birthdays, weddings and graduations
Births, funerals, loved ones, privacy, and family celebrations
I’ve endured chapped lips, strained relationships, aching feet
Desert heat, fire fights, sleepless nights, crazy bosses, senseless losses
And I endured all this while someone was trying to kill me, you feel me
I’ve endured foul smells, bullet shells, misguided maps, sneak attacks
Sharing spaces, dangerous places, guard duty, no booty, IED’s, RPG’s

And you think I – O U an explanation

Have you ever been in this situation
Where you had to give up so much while trying to stay in touch
With your humanity, your sanity; this war was handed to me
But it’s the God inside the man in me that fights the good fight
Whether you think I’m wrong or right; believe what you like
But you’re not in the fight unless you’re making a sacrifice
You can’t roar like lions and live like mice
I’m prepared to give my life in a U. S. war
What are you fighting for

Soldiers sing this song:

Some say freedom is free, but I tend to disagree
Some say freedom was won by a Soldier and a gun
My Grandpa fought in WWI ; my daddy fought in WWII
My brothers jumped in Panama and I went to Saudi, too
Some say freedom is free, but I tend to disagree
Some say freedom was won by a Soldier and a gun

If you think freedom is free; you need to read your history

Activist at center of landmark case allowing flag burning faces charges after melee in front of White House
WASHINGTON - Prosecutors in Washington on Friday dropped the most serious criminal charge filed against a California man whose burning of two American flags outside the White House on the Fourth of July sparked a melee between ideologically opposed groups.

Dozens of views as to why or why not to burn the Flag the argument is never won until your shed blood for that flag bitches lol.

Why would burning a fetish need to be "allowed" in the first place?

Long as it doesn't run counter to local fire restrictions, that's the natural state. It's the whole fetish-worship thing that's perverse. Just ask Moses/Exodus 32.
