You know, when I used to be Republican, this was one of the tricks I fell for. A bit of residual Catholicism i was unable to get rid of was believing fetuses were people.

It's horseshit, because this isn't about protecting fetuses and never was.

IT was about getting people to vote against their own economic interests. Reagan and Bush Sr. Talked smack all day about how horrible a decision Roe v. Wade was, and they still put O'Connor, Kennedy and Souter on the court to protect the decision.

There is a way to reduce abortions. Universal Health Care, paid family and medical leave, stronger sex education presented without religious/moral bullshit.

Personally, while I support a woman's right to choose abortion, I would be more than willing to support a ban beyond the first trimester. The truth is that most people actually would support that if the right to lifers would not use that as a stepping stone to ban all abortions.

I have no problem with the idea of women aborting at will. Hey, it's on their heads if there are mental health issues later in life or in some after-life (if one believes in that). Where I do have the problem is that they want everybody ELSE to pay their contract killers.

I have never said it should be illegal. I just wish women would make better choices in their life so they wouldn't get to this point. Millions of smart women each year know how to do that because they think before they act.

I don't like the way the left likes to minimize abortions and pretend they are no big deal. Any procedure is a big deal and complications during abortions can be serious, even life threatening, and sometimes does so much damage that the woman can no longer carry a baby in the future. There is nothing wrong with having a full understanding of what is happening, that includes proper tests by doctors to determine any risk factors. Abortions are legal, so quit worrying that because some politicians don't approve that things will change.

The personhood laws should pertain to babies that are wanted by the mother and are killed due to the mother being murdered or attacked.

1. Women must make better choices but not men just because they're the only one who get pregnant? Even birth control is not 100% nor is it even rational to think people are thinking of the potential consequences when in the heat of the moment.

2. Complications do happens in every medical procedure however the restrictions red states have put on the procedure are not for women's protection during the process, it's to prevent them from getting one.

For instance, in Missouri there is a 72 hour waiting period to get an abortion. The sponsor literally said it was only to make women "think about it." How insulting. Apparently Missouri thinks women get an abortion like it is a pedicure. They have already thought about it and they made their CHOICE. Then the state puts an unnecessary burden upon these women for no reason at all.

It comes down to the lack of respect Republicans have for the autonomy of women.

1. Aborting a fetus is not a human. The legal nightmare it would create would be astounding. A fetus is not a person until it is born. Then we can ascertain it's existence in our world.

2. The sex of the fetus being aborted is irrelevant. Because I support a woman's right to choose and she choose to abort a female fetus doesn't mean "I don't respect women." That's illogical on some many levels.

Abortion laws were unenforceable. Women never went to jail for having them, and providers only went to jail if they fucked up and maimed someone who wasn't a fetus.
