If this is the case, why do we need to spend billions on a wall and billions more each year to upkeep said wall?

If Trump can decrease border crossings by 78% in just 6 months, give him a full year and we will have a negative illegal immigration with many illegals sneaking back over the border into Mexico and the wall would slow that down.

It is because the rest of the 22% are smuggling in drugs for the cartels. And we have too many border patrols shooting at them and chasing them down. The wall will help it to make it an relaxing job for the border patrols.
