A Military “Stealth Bike”?

A silent, nimble, two-wheeled killing machine.

That's what Pentagon researchers envision, now that they've greenlighted developing a hybrid motorcycle powered by two sources: an engine that burns several types of fuel and a stealthy, super-quiet electric motor.

The notion is ludicrous. The modern definition of "stealth" is avoiding radar. We are fighting a freaking enemy that lives in the 6th century and it's unlikely that they have ground radar. The speed a motorcycle has to run to navigate hazardous terrain with night vision is about as fast as a well trained platoon of infantry can navigate the same terrain.

There were units of the SS that were mounted on motorcycles in Russia. Their record in combat is superlative. They were able to cover enough territory that the Russians often reported them as three differant units.

Years ago I used to run a crosscountry race once in a while on an open class Husky. You can cover a huge amount of rough territory on a light bike. And arrive far less tired than on the hoof.

I used to run enduros in my younger days and I qualified for the Berkshire Internationals in the 70's. on a BSA Victor. My number was 444. Anyway the German motorcycle SS were not combat effective. They were a forlorn effort when weather permitted as observation and artillery forward observers. You have to wonder about the fat assed Pentagon clods who approve this junk when a sattelite can do the same thing.
