One another thread some damn fool has been trying to sell the notion that the English language can be learned in a few weeks.

I just wanted to balance out the universe by informing anyone interested in the truth that BICS takes at least a couple of years, and CALP takes 5 - 7 years, typically.

Gaining real fluency is an ongoing process, not something that can be accomplished "in 'X' easy steps!"


While we're at it, there is no practical meaning to the "X language is harder/easier" thing either.
