A 'Hard Left' view of the War in Ukraine

No, it wasn't, nor did I say it was. Please try to read things more closely. But Marxists, not just me, took part in it -- to their credit. (Martin Luther King's close advisors were CP dues-cheaters.)

When I was doing voter registration in Tennessee in the summer of 1964, everyone -- that is, all us white college kids -- was some sort of Leftist, maybe just a liberal, but also further Left. Several were 'Red Diaper Babies', as we called kids whose parents were in, or had been in, the CPUSA.

Nothing wrong with that. In fact, honorable. Not the kind of movement conservatives would instinctively join, although as others will no doubt say, the Republican Party voted in favor of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 in greater numbers than did the Democrats.
(In the House, 82% of Republicans voted for it, against 69% of the Democrats; in the Senate, 80% of the Republicans voted for it, as against 63% of the Democrats.

The Democrat "anti's" were all Southern racists, but the Republicans included some Goldwater libertarian purists who believed that businesses should be able to hire, and serve, whomever they wanted.

And in fact, for whatever motivation, it was the CPUSA who were the most prominent champions of Black rights during 1930s. Credit where it's due.

Read about the "Scottsboro Boys". [ Scottsboro Boys - Wikipedia ] (This Wiki article is poorly edited -- it repeats itself. But it has the facts. Conservatives in particular ought to read it, to get some context for the present.)
Yeah, let's look at that.

Yep, the Southern Democrats voted out of racial, not libertarian, concerns. And the Northern liberal-leftist Democrats were perfectly happy to be in the same party with them. (I'm not condemning them for this. Politics is not a nice game, and it was the only way for liberals to get their general social programs through. Although it's surprising to read about 'Progressive' Democrats who were also racists, eg Woodrow Wilson [ Woodrow Wilson - Wikipedia ])

But then he also imprisoned the Socialist Eugene Debs for ten years for opposing US entry into WWI, and refused to pardon him when the war was over. That was left to horrible rightwing conservative Republican President Warren G Harding, who also invited Debs to the White House for a chat. Oh, these kind-hearted liberal Democrats, and those hard-hearted rightwing Republicans!

And when the South had finally had integration forced down its throat, and the Southerners realized that they would have to live with equal rights and become like Northern liberals on this issue -- allow equal rights but live as far away from Blacks as you can ... THEN, and only then, did they begin to realize that their general social conservatism on other issues found a more congenial home among Republicans ... although it was mainly only lip-service.

Zero southern republic pols voted in favor and none would now.

The 'case' is not your brain.

The Southern Democrats were a major, significant component of the Democratic Party. The few Southern Republicans were not, within their Party. All Southern politicians voted as their voters wanted them to (those voters being almost all white, since Blacks were disencouraged, often forcefully, from registering to vote ... and not by Republicans).

The Southern Republicans remained in the Republican Party -- lots of Southern Democrats would have bolted if they could have, and in fact many did in 1948 when Strom Thurmond (a Democrat) ran on the 'Dixiecrat' ticket and got a million votes, carrying four Southern States.

As for how Southern Republicans would vote now, you're just inventing. But I'll tell you what, why don't you, little white boy, go tell these Southern Republicans, most of the elected politicians, how they'd vote:

Yes, I'd pay serious money to see you go lecture these men and women about their racist political beliefs. Especially Herschel Walker or Allen West.

By the way, do you know who the first Black senator elected by popular vote was, and what Party he was a member of?

They all would vote against the 1964 Civil Rights bill and the decades voting rights bill.

No doubt.

And you know this ...how?

But ... you may have a point! Barry Goldwater opposed at least the first bill on good libertarian grounds. (And he was the guy who integrated the Arizona National Guard in 1948, in the vanguard of the de-sgregation of the American military.)

So, it's just possible that these Black Southern (or Southern-born) Republicans might be principled libertarians, seeing that the ongoing expansion of Federal Control is bad for white and Black alike.

But of course you're not implying that. You're implying that they are simply brainwashed by white racists, or responding to the pressure of white racists, since -- I believe -- white liberals secretly -- or perhaps I should say sub-consciously -- think Blacks are too stupid to derive complex political beliefs for themselves.

Sorry, could you expand on 'CRT'?
Yeah, it includes anything to do with black culture that might cause a white person to feel bad.

Like in florida banning a historical book on Roberto Clemente or Rosa Parks.

Discussing slavery or Jim Crow laws as historical facts.

So, your assertion is that Critical Race theory is just stating objective truths about American history and the position of Blacks in it?

It's not pushing a Leftist political narrative?

You're saying that Republicans don't want children to learn about Rosa Parks or Roberto Clemente ... that they ban any textbooks that mention them? (To tell the truth, I had never heard of the latter person until I just looked him up, but then I have zero interest in baseball.)

Btw, this guy was today LEADING a public counter-demonstration in the UK in favor of more arms for Ukraine. Let that sink in.

Yes. Back in the early 60s, when I was just a teenager, my (Unitarian) Sunday School teacher was the head of the ACLU in Houston. I joined them. But now .... although they haven't quite broken with committment to Free Speech absolutism, I expect them to do so soon, like the rest of the Left. Sad.
You are like me.

You have seen what the left once was, and what it is now.

I know the left, and this ain't it.

Today's "left" is bankrupt. It's entirely worthless as a political option, unless you like rich commies and homeless Americans.

The left used to depend on intellectuals, now it depends on lemmings.

And the Democratic party is rotten to the core.

No thanks. Either fix it or get rid of it.

The rotten fucking leftard lemmings keep complaining about Trump the Grifter and then they elect the Ten Percent guy.

What a bunch of brain dead fucktards.

Anyone who votes Democrat today, is dumb as a stump.

(Sorry if the shoe fits, but I try not to mince words).

Well ... yes. There are a few Marxist sects who still carry on the 'traditional Left' view of things, but they have zero influence on the great mob of privileged college kiddies and graduates who are very happy to work for affluent corporations while signalling their virtue by putting Black Lives Matter signs in their well-manicured lawns, in neighborhoods that are as far away as they can get from the Black ghettoes.

However... remember Tulsi Gabbard. People like this are the tips of icebergs of people who think similarly, and who have not yet moved. (And one of the reasons they haven't -- sorry to say this -- is Mr Trump. I understand that his base thinks he's the Second Coming. But there are a lot of 'moderate conservatives', including many Republicans, some of whom are far from 'moderate', who can't stand him.

I'm one of the latter, in fact, but I now have the attitude -- having supported Hilary in 2016 -- that you go to war with the army you've got, and this man's great virtues are that, with respect to politicians and political influence, he's a buyer, not a seller, and, in his own way, he loves his country.

Okay, Al Capone was a patriot, and if he had been in uniform at Normandy aiming at a very honest, Christian, kind young German soldier behind an MG42, I would have wanted the bullet to strike home.

It's war.

Well, I couldn't care less about Mr Trump one way or the other. But I think your statement is accurate, the right went with the horse it had (because there wasn't another one, who could have beaten Hillary).

I don't like Hillary. I would vote for a felonious dogcatcher over Hillary. I'd vote for a Trump a thousand times over if it meant keeping a Hillary out of the White House. Trump is weird and maybe a little sicko, but Hillary is downright evil.

Another profound, thoughtful comment from the Left's resident intellectual. Again, we old stupid rightwingers are left speechless.
