When I applied for my last mortgage, I had to provide documents on every loan, every credit card, and every property I owned in the last 30 years. They even asked about a line of credit I took out with Bob's Discount Furniture, but hadn't bought anything yet. (My plan was I wasn't going to buy a new house and populate it with the crappy furniture I hadn't updated in 20 years.) And it still took more than 30 days to get an approval. the Loan officer was amazed it went as quickly as it did.

I should point out at that point, I had previously owned two homes, had a credit score north of 800, no credit card debt, and about 40K in savings in the bank.

It was certainly better than when I applied in 2004, when I had 40K in credit card debt, minimal savings, and was able to get a VA loan with no money down.

Now, I haven't tried going through NICS (Not NCIS, that's a crappy TV show). I did apply for an IL FOID Card. You know, how the gun fetishists whine about how IL has such tough gun laws?

$11.00, filled out one form, sent them a picture, got my card.
