I was just informed that it is going to cost 8K to remove a little cist from my thumb,,

what is usually a 15 minute procedure in the doctors office now thanks to government rules can no ,longer be done in office and requires a surgical unit to perform it,,

funny thing is the place that does it is undergoing a multi million dollar upgrade with more rooms and fees,,

gotta love the government,, they cause a problem and then offer themselves as a solution,,

That's because you have insurance.
If you had no insurance it would only cost you a fraction of that.

Same thing is going on at the pharmacies with the benefits managers. A pill that normally costs a dollar cash costs fifty with insurance.

This is why Medicare needs to be ended.

its annoying since its on the tip,,

so no I will not pay their fee,,

it would be cheaper to tear it open myself and go to urgent care and have it sewed back up,,

Smart.

I used to use a different approach for minor medical issues. My husband and I were good friends with an ARNP who was a VietNam Medic in the army. He would take care of small stuff like non-malignant cysts right there in our home. He was qualified to do any small surgery, and also setting and casting fractures, et cetera, and would smile and accept a good home cooked meal in payment.

I wish there was a nation-wide database of perfectly qualified professionals who would work outside the toxic system.

Good luck, PH.

Now they would put him in jail for practicing without a license.... Translation.... Not being part of the medical Mafia.

Well, if you trust someone to be intelligent enough, you can buy suture practicing kits with tools and sutures and instructions. Suturing is not impossible for the lay person to learn, and there are plenty of resources for learning online.

Not ended until there is something else in place for senior citizens that the government has made 100% dependent on Medicare. But it needs to be thoroughly audited, streamlined, made efficient, effective, competent, affordable and ethical by competent scrutiny, amendment, management who are public servants and not professional bureaucrats.

I was very young but working in administration in a small country hospital when Medicare first went into effect. My desk butted up against the desk of the woman assigned and trained to handle the Medicare claims. From day 1 she (and I by default) saw the fraud happening. Doctors walked up and down the halls and if a patient was sleeping they didn't enter the room but entered a report of an examination knowing Medicare would pay the bill without question. Many unnecessary tests and procedures were ordered because the government would pay for them without question.

That has only escalated from there with costs rising constantly to unaffordable (without insurance) levels and that has affected everybody's insurance.

And many of the rules make no sense such is the case with the OP. What should be a quick and easy procedure in the doctor's office now requires a hospital and surgeon etc. That's insane.

My aunt was denied a cheap osteoporosis med because she still had her gallbladder. What did the gallbladder have to do with it? Nothing. But it's a Medicare rule. Instead she is required to have a far more expensive medication with a huge copay. That's also insane.

Right now it is a smoldering pile of theft, dishonesty and financial abuse.
I agree though something needs to be put in place first.

Many of us paid Medicare deductions from our paychecks up to and/or over a 50 year or more work history. If we die before we go on Medicare all that money just goes back to the government. It benefits our living family not at all. Same for the most part with Social Security.

And the scary part is that an unscrupulous Congress and President could abruptly end both programs and confiscate all that money with a simple majority vote. (It would be immediately challenged in the courts, of course, but there is almost no law that would apply to prevent the government from not prevailing in doing that.)

Nice story

Give some thought to telling them you want it done under a local. Might make a big difference.

If that doesn't work, give me a call. I'll do it for seven grand.
Don't listen to him.

I'll do it for 49.95 + a bottle of Jim Beam. Preferably before the operation. :)

Oh, he is part of the Medical Mafia. He works in a ckinic. The only way he'd ever be arrested is if we blabbed about him performing "private" services for us.

I have treated a shit-ton of hypertensives and people with respiratory issues, colds, as well as some neurological issues like insomnia and restless leg syndrome. People who respect and trust me and know how to keep their mouths shut.

Before the Medical Mafia existed, we were mostly our own doctors -- our moms and aunties delivered our babies and treated just about everything but broken bones and gunshot wounds -- that's what Doc Adams did.
