Do liberals believe if there was a legitimate Russia investigation going on it will stop with Comey gone? It will continue.
Comey is a political hack. He is so concerned about Trump and Russia, but not who leaked Flynn's name. Not to mention he listed all of Hillary's crimes and then didn't recommend indictment.
His involvement in the FBI tainted any credibility of any investigation because of his actions.

But the question remains, why fire the guy now? And the answer is Russia. People can lie about that not beign the reason, but its not convincing. Personally, I don't like Comey but I want to see the investigation go full tilt for as long as it takes to uncover every hack and every tie to Trump.
I'm still saying the answer to 'why fire the guy now' is answered quickly and effortlessly by scanning WHO/WHAT was in the headlines at that moment?

The Russian investigation was going to have to be disposed of anyway, whenever, but that's the answer to the question of timing. Rump, if he understands nothing else, definitely does understand the black art of attention manipulation. The timing serves the deflection; if you're going to get rid of those who know too much anyway ---- you might as well get a bonus benefit out of it. Like a news cycle.

When he testified that there was an investigation that included Trump's campaign- Trump hated him.

Imo, this will backfire on Trump. Any hints of leaks that the DOJ is interfering or the FBI is laying off will be broadcast loud and clear.

Both Comey and the NSA Director already testified that there was NEVER any evidence of a crime committed by Trump or of Collusion. The FBI has already said 3 times there is no evidence of collusion. So what else could Comey say. Why would Trump want Comey gone when Comey had already for all intents and purposes cleared him of any wrong-doing?
