They sure did, especially Franco. Franco turned Spain from a stagnant socialist economy into a top first world economy. Look up the Economic Miracle. During the 1960s and 1970s, the economic growth of Spain was only rivaled by Japan. But ever since the death of Franco, and the establishment of democracy, successive social democrat governments have run the country into the ground where the unemployment rate is over 25% and more than half of the youth are unemployed.
