'The need is real': GOP mayors embrace Biden's COVID-19 relief plan even as Republican lawmakers pan it
"This isn't because of some gross mismanagement or some bad contracts ... This is about addressing the needs of a global pandemic," one mayor said.

"In all, 32 Republican mayors – from midsize cities such as Oklahoma City and Mesa, Arizona, to smaller ones like Carmel, Indiana, and Mooresville, North Carolina – are among 425 mayors nationally who urged passage of Biden's COVID-19 relief package in a letter through the U.S. Conference of Mayors to Congress. Despite their efforts, no Republicans in the House or Senate have publicly supported the bill. [Mayor] Barnett said his city took in "millions and millions" less in tax revenue as property tax and commercial tax collections declined. Even the canceling of youth soccer cost the city hundreds of thousands in fees. As a result, the city last year furloughed more than 40 employees, canceled road projects and postponed improvements to public buildings.
Barnett's message to Republican critics: "Talk to some of the Republican mayors." "This isn't because of some gross mismanagement or some bad contracts that were signed or historic deficits," he said. "This is about addressing the needs of a global pandemic that are really (for) the same constituents they serve in D.C. that we're serving here at the local level."
When the CARES ACT was passed; it had overwhelming bipartisan support from the voters and Trump wasted no time taking credit for it...Not a single Dem voted against their own bill because they didn't want a Republican president to get the credit...HEROES Act passed; it also had overwhelming support from voters; in fact, Trump tried to switch positions and come out in favor of those $2000 checks like they were his idea....instead the GOP low-balled for $600...why? Because they are Republicans; also because they have an almost pathological desire to impose austerity on the working class and lavish luxuries on the top 1%.....
However, for the GOP mayors and governors (example being Jim Justice of West Virginia; who urged Biden to go big on COVID stimulus) -- governing is more than just trolling on Twitter...one GOP mayor in Texas thought all he had to do in a crisis was troll his own citizens and he immediately had to resign the next day....trolling isn't governing....Republicans in Congress don't care about bipartisanship; because this bill has more overwhelming bipartisan support than any bill Republicans have pushed in years...which is why Republicans no longer run on policies, just trolling.....and now they are on record for opposing 1400 direct stimulus payments to Americans....AGAIN......but hey, Majorie Greene hung an anti-trans rights sign outside her door; I am sure that groundbreaking policy will help get Americans back on their feet.
