A clip of then-President Barack Obama in 2010 warning that halting deportations would trigger a surge in illegal immigration is going viral.

The post — made on the social media platform X — fueled sharp divisions over ICE deportation raids launched since President Donald Trump returned to the White House.

While some critics condemn the deportation of otherwise law-abiding illegal immigrants, others are replying that such "mass deportations" were not only Trump’s flagship promise, but also a norm among past Democratic administrations.

Obama had previously been criticized by activists and media outlets during his presidency for deporting illegal immigrants who had little or no serious criminal history beyond crossing the border illegally — earning him the nickname "deporter-in-chief" among some critics.

In the last few years of his presidency, Obama wilted under pressure and started arresting only illegal aliens who had been caught committing serious crimes, and then Biden opened the flood gates by giving illegals who asked for asylum - and under Biden they all did - a court date and setting them free and it is these, the 11,000,000 Obama wanted to deport plus the at least 9,000,000 Biden lit in, that President Trump is now deporting.

Trumps team need use it in an ad.

This country would be better without illegal aliens. Our justice system would be better without IAs. Our workers would be much better off without IAs. Our schools and hospitals would be much better without IAs. Our taxes would be lower without IAs. Crime would be lower without IAs. But Democrats need them for voter and spending fraud. And that, my friend, is the only reason that anyone in the US needs them.

Democrats have been training up their VIOLENT wing for attacks. Now another 'nurse' got caught and FIRED for videos advocating poisoning ICE agents, WTF. These people have lost their damn minds.

Where is the part where he argued they can bust into houses, warrants be damned?

Where is the part he said you better be prepared to show I.D. At any time asked?
Homan was running ICE then too. I doubt the tactics changed. We already know that Obama ignored the "due process" bullshit the left pushes today.

He didn't have to state the obvious back then. Federal law requires aliens to carry their documents at all times and present them when asked.

as far as warrants and going into house, the 4th amendment always has exemptions, can you quote anyone saying that the 4th amendment be damned? I'll wait.....

Many times.....and the difference between me and you? I condemned it in every situation and refused to vote for it.

Due process is for a criminal act. We are simply sending them home.

Noem's statement wasn't directed only to aliens. But you know this.

It still doesn't allow an official walk up to someone minding their own business and demanding "papers".

15th post
Every single person inside our borders gets due process.
During the Obama administration (2009–2017), over 3.1 million people were deported. A significant portion of these removals—averaging around 74% over the course of his administration—were conducted through "summary removal" processes that did not involve a hearing before an immigration judge.

Yes, the law in fact allows an official to walk up to any alien, doing whatever, and demand their papers.

Your link says they are using administrative warrants....you said no warrants. Why did you lie?

I get this all the time. Someone arguing Obama did wrong so it's cool for Trump to do the same.

I've argued many times that the Obama administration was an overall failure so your statements mean nothing to me.
