What they don’t tell ya is that most of those “members” are actually bots.

It’s come down to this:

Bots are now keeping track of the nonsense spewed by other bots.

AIs talking to AIs... They don't need us. It was bound to happen.

Having bots do everything is an old theme. I watched this oldie a couple years ago and thought it was what gave Gene Roddenberry the idea for Star Trek. As I recall the lost civilization of Alter 4 died off because of the automation and robotics.

That is one of my favorite movies, though I'm dubious it played any particular role on creating the idea for Star Trek in Gene. There is one difference though, the bots and AI we are talking about today are a threat to taking over our role as being in control of things and thinking for ourselves, whereas the Robby Robot was always a technology strictly under the full absolute control of the people around him.

I mentioned the Star Trek aspect of the show because of how the crew of the earth ship was organized (Captain, 1st Officer, doctor, security, etc,...), exploring the galaxy. It just struck me while I was watching it. I wouldn't discount the idea of it playing a role in his concept.

It's a slippery line between AIs and allowing technology doing the work. It could destroy us all if we don't have some common sense. They wanted to hook up the missiles to the IFF system while I was in the service. Bad idea! What if the bogie you're interrogating isn't responding because it's IFF is down? Scratch one friendly because IFF is too stupid to do anything but what it knows or you have to turn the whole system off when there might be other real hostiles out there. The next step would be something comparable to Colossus where you let it have total control of all the important systems and it makes all the decisions and yet again you have to pull the plug or be destroyed by your own creation...
