Rice, beans, flour and other basics should be there for people who do not qualify for foodstamps. That program worked for years. My daughter hated beans but she didn't starve during those lean years while I established a means of supporting us.

I am making a pot of beans right now.

Will mix in some rice and have the peppers in with the beans stewing in the crockpot.

If I can eat it then the poor person can eat it!

The difference of course is that your child's friends came to eat at your invitation--not invaded your home demanding it.
