Working its way though the legislature right now is S2776. As written, the legislation would ban food service businesses and other retailers who have stores larger than 1,000 square feet from providing their customers with plastic bags. The bill would also naturally ban plastic straws.

Smith stands a good chance of getting his paper bag ban through. He claims to already have the support of Senate leadership. The state’s grocery store association is also on board with the policy.

Still, one wonders what the practical effects of Smith’s amendment, as well as the wider plastic bag ban, will be.

A recent study of plastic bag bans in California found that the policy—while still reducing plastic bag consumption overall—did lead to a 120 percent spike in the purchase of smaller garbage bags.

As it turns out, the single-use plastic bags people used at the grocery store were hardly single-use at all, but rather were reused to line waste baskets or clean up after pets.
When the free option disappeared, people simply started purchasing unprohibited garbage bags.

New Jersey’s bag ban would seem to have a similar potential for this kind of substitution. While it bars stores from handing out thinner plastic bags, it still allows them to provide customers with plastic tote bags provided they’re thicker than 10 mils.

As written, stores could well end up ditching their current carry-out bags for another type of thicker plastic bag, which would seemingly increase overall plastic consumption.

Not only do they want to ban consumer products that are bad for the environment, our friends in the "tolerant" left also want to ban opinions from being expressed in written word and music lyrics.

Yes, today they're banning plastic, tomorrow it'll be effigies of Lincoln and the day after? Our own reflections if our reflections do not reflect the perfect racial countenance. Sort of like the Übermensch in reverse. Funny thing is the mis-educated/ignorant on the Left assume Nietzsche was pro-radical left and an atheist, when in fact the man was a living harbinger, a warning of dangerous ideologies to come, and here and now those ideologies have arrived but God is not yet totally dead. Thus Spoke Zarathustra . . . ought to be required reading for every harebrained leftist.

Has anyone thought of the impact this would have on people switching to services like Amazon more for food deliveries?

If I recall correctly, originally plastic was brought about to save the forests due to use of paper bags....

Not only do they want to ban consumer products that are bad for the environment, our friends in the "tolerant" left also want to ban opinions from being expressed in written word and music lyrics.

The irony is many environmentalists support Brownies who care less about environmental protections, and animal rights than Whitey.

Brownies continue to do overpopulate, pollute, and deforest the rain forest.

But, but, but, Whitey's the evil monster.

Asians tend to treat living animals like produce, chopping them up and throwing them into a pot of boiling oil without so much as a hint of regard for it's suffering. Facebook, where whitey gets his opinions carefully monitored and censored is full of videos of Asians displaying their sadistic natures.

China and India are the worst polluters in the world and no laws we pass here in the US is going to stop them from pumping toxic waste into the air and seas 24/7.

You are exactly right.

Hell ten years ago they said eggs were bad for your health. Now eggs are great.

More bullshit brought to you by idiots.

Asians don't respect Animal, or Human lives, very well.
Coincidence?

My wife buys reusable bags. I like the plastic bags from the grocery store though. I don't like the ones from Wally World. You breath on those and they rip. When I reach from a plastic bag I want one that is strong enough to handle my bidness. I don't want that, biodegrade in a week horse shit. I want a solid, sturdy 'pop!' from my plastic bag as I force air in. My cheetos and bologna sandwich need to be secure in their satchel. This is my lunch GOD DAMNIT!
The environment can eat my ass.

40 years ago they pushed for plastic bags to save the environment.

40 years ago they pushed plastic bags to save trees.

North American goods are WAY over packaged. Every comes in boxes with blister packs for handy display. Buy a toy for a child and it takes 15 minutes to separate it from the packaging it's been tied to with plastic ties zip ties. In Germany, stores must take back any and all packaging. It seriously cuts down on the amount of waste and garbage.

Boy, that's quite the leap you're making there. How do you relate banning a product which is damaging to the environment and which is not biodegradable, to banning images of politcal figures? Of course, you being a a hare-brained right wing fool, logic and thinking are not your strong suit.

Maybe you should have spent less time mis-understanding Nietzsche, and more reading about the history of Weimar Germany and the Rise of Hitler.

You think companies spend money on packaging they don’t need?
