And Putin is not fighting nazis. Its no more accurate to refer to Ukrainian ultranationalists as "nazis" that to refer to separatists as "stalinists." What we have are ukrainians whose identity somehow embodies those who fought with Hitler and ukranians whose identity somehow embodies those who fought with Stalin. Ironically, neither side was actually fighting "for" something. In donbass there are two groups of ultranationists who wish death to the other group. But that's simply not why Putin invaded.

There really haven't been many 'Nazis' since 1945.

But, there have been lots of groups that are very similar to the Nazis since then.

On one hand many people say that Ukrainians can't be Nazis because Zelensky is Jewish. Those people don't understand that there were many ethnic groups beside the Jews that the Nazis wanted to exterminate. 24 millions Russians were killed by the Nazis during WWII...far more than Jews.

So it's understandable that Russians view Nazis from a Russian-centric point of view rather than a Jewish-centric point of view.

Therefore it's understandable that Russians view Ukrainian Nationalists that want to commit ethnic cleansing against ethnic Russians would be called Nazis. Which is also part of the reason NATO refused them membership.

One the other hand, the unwarranted invasion of Ukraine using brutal tactics of mass bombing of civilians is very much like the unwarranted invasions and tactics used by the Nazis. So it's reasonable to call the Russians Nazis - they sure are acting like Nazis.

So in short, BOTH the Ukrainians and Russians could, with some validity, be called Nazis.
