    School Safety:
Critics of the National Rifle Association's call for armed security guards at our schools respond that one famous school did have a sheriff's deputy on scene. But without him, the toll would have been much worse.

After remaining silent on the mass shooting at Sandy Hook, the NRA's Wayne LaPierre held a press conference Friday to condemn another tragedy in a gun-free zone and to advocate the placement of armed security guards at our schools as is done at airports, banks and other public venues.

"It's now time for us to assume responsibility for our schools," he said. "The only way to stop a monster from killing our kids is to be permanently involved and invested in a plan of absolute protection."

LaPierre called for a national school security plan, including an appropriation from Congress for armed guards in every school. "The only thing that stops a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun," he said.

As we have pointed out, the shooter at the theater in Aurora, Colo., had other theaters between his home and his ultimate target that he could have chosen. Yet, the one he picked was the one that publicly proclaimed itself gun-free.

We've also observed that in other school shooting incidents, such as at a high school in Pearl, Miss., the shooter's spree was cut short by the presence of an armed citizen able to shoot back.

Yes, the critics respond, and there was an armed security guard at Columbine High School in 1999. Yet, 12 students and a teacher were killed by two armed intruders, as if that disqualified the solution of placing armed guards, possibly unemployed army veterans, at each of our nation's 100,000-plus schools.

As I recall, the armed guards at Columbine missed everyone they shot at.

Watching Doc as we go through this process is going to be fun.

A true chicken shit......afraid to spend a moment unarmed.....desperately clinging. Multiple posts per day telling us how guns are only safe if we have more of them.

And...of course....hiding behind the pretzel shaped logic that nutters use to claim the 2nd amendment as their personal arms treaty.

You will have to defend your home with a revolver or a shotgun, pussy. And if you are taking a trip to get some new panties, you'll have to figure out some other means of self defense. Good luck.

    Checkout the book "Columbine".

There was only one real encounter. A school "SRO", which is a full time cop assigned to the school, saw 1 of the 2 douchebags at a doorway very early in the incident, and traded a few rounds from a relatively far distance for pistol shooting, and both missed.

The incident began to unfold, and AT THAT TIME in our history, SWAT and police protocol assumed that a man with a gun in a school was a hostage situation. They held a perimeter, like the book says for a hostage situation, and tried making contact. Douchebags Harris and Klebold didnt want to talk.

The Jefferson County SWAT team begged for permission to go into the school immediately, but commanders denied it because they were acting on assumption it was a hostage situation. By the time they gave the go ahead, it was too late.

Today's tactics for SWAT and patrol is going in immediately, no hesitation, and they are trained extensively in "active shooter" drill, which is military-style infantry tactics of entering and HUNTING DOWN the shooter like a fucking pig and killing him asap.

In today's tactics, that first cop would have waited for 1 additional officer, and immediately gone in and hunted those 2 cowards down.

If an abundance of weapons would equal safety, then Afghanistan and Juarez, Mexico would be the two safest places on Earth.
