Yes, As a Matter of Fact, Obama COULD Lower Gas Prices

What part of 'gasoline and diesel have become the largest US exports' don't you people get? Opening up more oil fields would just mean that we would export even more gasoline and diesel. What we are seeing is an increasing worldwide demand for gasoline and oil. A demand where the people in Europe and Asia are quite willing to pay $5 or more. It is the free market at work, are all you 'Conservatives' against the free market?

As for the nonsense concerning oil shale, there is no economically feasable way to get the 'oil', actually a carogen, out of the shale. All known processes use a vast amount of water, heat, and energy for the crushing machinery.

What you dont get is that is only a small part of the overall equation.

If you did your post would be absent.

Really? Well then, why don't you just explain what the major parts of the overall equation are, with links to back you up. What is absent is your brain.

Thank you for proving my point.

Fortunately, the electorate is not nearly as stupid as the Left needs them to be on this one.

If he chose to, yes he could.

He could stop the government from interfering in energy production and transportation.
He could push to eliminate the Federal gas tax (It's seriously messed up when the government, which does nothing, makes more money off every gallon, then the company who does everything does).
He could approve more energy production, decreasing the demand for gas/oil,

There are lots of other things he could do as well.

He could stop borrowing money.
He could stop printing money to the point of worthlessness.

A Major New U.S. Export: Gasoline?

The United States has become a major exporter of, get this — gasoline.

We sent abroad more 430,000 more barrels of refined gas, the stuff you get at the pump, than we imported in September, according to government data. That is more than double what it was at the beginning of this year, reports CNN.

Several things have changed: Our demand has declined with the slowing economy, and our cars just use less than they once did. Plus, we burn more corn in the form of ethanol.

The United States, long a gasoline importer, now sends refined oil products to countries that are growing faster but don’t have the refinery capacity in place, such as Brazil and Mexico.

More supply means higher prices, he figures. LOL

We have more supply now..and higher prices.

Go figure.

Damn this is harder than is should be.

The oil companies buy a lease for pumping oil on American land. They sell the oil on the world market.

How do you force the oil companies to sell cheaper to Americans. (why does no one answer this question??

Geez are you on to something here because the Major reason a commodity is priced the way it is for FUTURE delivery involves some not all of these considerations:
1) How much gas will be consumed in say 10 years
2) How much oil will be found.
3) How much the dollar is worth since as of today almost ALL contracts are in $$.
4) How much oil be produced today....

Factors that can be controlled:
1) EPA gas mileage CAFE requirements dictate how much gas in future used.
2) EPA regulations implementation costs for refineries, blends, etc.
3) How much domestic oil development encouraged/discouraged

i've asked that question here and on other forums numerous times and no one will address it. the main reason, in my opinion, is because it isn't really about gas prices. it's about one party regaining power.

Hate to say this, but that would have a minimal impact on gas prices in the near future. If he actually backed those words with action we would see prices drop, but to much is dependent in Iran in the near future for anything Obama does to drive the prices down.

So then your assertation is that Obama is not really to blame for gas prices? I find that surprising.

How do you get from "There is nothing he can do to affect a quick drop in gas prices" to "Nothing he has done has contributed to the high price of gas?"

There is no shortage of petroleum that explains today's spike in refined gas and oil.

These spikes are the result of the speculation on those products.

Ergo, there is nothing that any POTUS can really do about it unless they choose to dramatically interfer with the futures market.

Exactly.

Why are people like you IGNORING THESE FACTS???

There are in the below undeveloped areas of the domestic USA
2.5 TRILLION barrels of oil!!!
2.8 billion barrels in 100 feet or less off Gulf coast
.3 billion in Virginia
10.0 billion in Anwr .3% of 2.5 TRILLION barrels
500.0 billion in Bakken Formation
2,000.0 billion in shale oil
2,513.1 billion barrels.
U.S. HAS MASSIVE OIL

2.5 TRILLION BARRELS!
The USA uses 20 million barrels a day..
That means 273 years all from the USA domestic production.

Now if Obama would do as Bush did, release federal lands to leasing, promote drilling and STOP the EPA from implementing regulations that shut down refineries.. GAS would drop to $2.00/gal!

When faced with $700 million upgrade requirements strictly from EPA Hovensa owners of the 350,000 barrels per day refinery in St. Croix said screw it!
They're closing that refinery laying off 1,500 workers and all because EPA wants to reduce less then 2% of the remaining effluence emissions!
Losing that 350,000 barrels increases speculators buying of increased oil contracts!

No one is ignoring those facts at all and supply has little to do with prices. What you both are ignoring is the fact that we are a net EXPORTER of gas - we have more than we can use! And the prices are where they are. So policy has nothing to do with it - but if Obama were to give in and make Big Oil happy, they would reward him with lower prices.

Domestic oil production is up. But I love it when you guys say the government should get out of the business of regulating markets.

Okay. The government should also NEVER EVER step in between Labor and Managment disputes.

Ever.

You with that one?

If you agree to abolish unions for government employees and as long as their isnt violence and law breaking, i dont have a problem at all with that.
