Tax the rich, tax the rich. Well it is time to understand that the rich are mobile. Tom Galisano (Billionair founder of Paychex and owner of the NHL Buffalo Sabres) today moved his official residence from near Rochester,NY, to Naples Florida. In the last election he gave money to any and all candidates that promised to hold or lower state spending. The candidates did not fare well, and NY state is trying to tax everything that Obama misses. Galisano is voting with his feet, and New York is out $14,000 a day in his personal taxes. You can only wonder when he moves Paychex out? The rich can and will vote with their feet Mr. Obama.

It's the argument I've been making for years. You can only soak the rich to the extent they are willing to permit it. They have too many other options.

Not surprised he moved to Florida. The Republicans in control here have greatly reduced intangible taxes and property taxes.

Of course, our state now has huge deficits, we can't afford to pay for our schools, and they are talking about closing the parks on Sundays.

But I'm glad to lower the quality of education and public services so we can get folks like Galisano to move here. And it's not like we already have enough people or anything.

So raise the taxes and they'll move elsewhere and the deficit - which almost certainly is the result of a depressed economy rather than the tax cuts - wil grow even larger.

Why are you blaming a president for a state's taxes? Does Congress set NY's taxes? :cuckoo:

Why is it that you believe that "throwing" money at education--makes kids learn. Right now our country spends on average $2000.00 per student per year--& grades are still failing. In fact, we pay more for education that any other country in the world--yet their kids are surpassing ours. Why do you think that is?

To let you know I have 2 neices that are elementary school teachers. They don't blame not having enough money to educate their students--they BLAME THE PARENTS.

So--maybe we should be throwing money at derelict PARENTS to make certain their kids do their homework & that they help--& pay attention to what their kids are doing in school. Right now--that would probably be more effective-

The point the author is making is that this man supported Obama. You know--the "hey it's time to get patriotic & pay more in taxes." Instead of doing what Obama/Biden wanted him to do--he avoided much of them by moving to Florida. It's hipocritical for someone who supported taxing the rich--for the rich to move in order to avoid being "patriotic."
