I hit someone porch once and left the scene. I called the police the next morning because I felt so guilty and of course I was arrested while lying in a hospital bed. I will never hit anything that belongs to someone else ever again without leaving a note.
I only have about a grand to pay back of the five thousand I had to pay to his homeowners insurance.

Happened to me last week. I backed my Dodge RAM into a PT Cruiser (I think I deserve a medal for hitting one of those). Left a 6 inch dent in his bodywork (my truck was fine). It was pouring with rain so I left my cell number at the lobby of the hotel it was parked in. Guy called me about 2 hours later, we exchanged details and it's all being sorted out. He was surprised and delighted that a note had been left.

2 days later, my son left his wallet in the lobby of a hotel with about $100 in it. We went back 15 minutes later and someone was just in the process of handing it in.

I like to think that what goes around comes around. That said, I took a couple photos of the dent, just in case...

The other night while at the bar I saw a guy drop his wallet on the ground behind his bar stool. I picked it up and handed it right back to him. Do you think he said thank you? No, he is just gave me a dirty look like I was trying to steal it. One of his friends said thank you but it still pissed me off. I could have stolen all his money or someone else could of and this guy was too much of an asshole to say thank you.

Now a couple of weeks ago I left my coin change at one of those self check outs, I think it was probably only 50 cents but this older guy caught up to me in the parking lot and handed it back to me. That restored my faith in humanity, he spent the time to find me in the parking lot when it would have just been easier to pocket the 50 cents.

One of my kids found a wallet and keys on the ground and called the police station to tell them they were bringing in.

Our wonderful pigs told them they could be charged with theft.
Some popo's are real assholes! I hope the guy who's wallet it was, was not such an asshole.
My brother dropped his wallet in the college parking lot once with all his finacial aid money in it, I think about 400 and some kid returned it. I think my brother gave him 50 bucks.

You hit a porch?

We have a winner for the biggest loser!

...if you damaged a parked car in a parking lot, but there was no damage to your vehicle and nobody saw the incident?

I am for other--I have done so before, but that was because the other car was damaged.

In the case of "No paint missing, no dents showing, no glass damage" I might not. But I was never in this position.

Luissa, I took out a mailbox and post making an illegal left out of a shopping center once. Shit happens; as long as the mistake is a learned lesson not repeated . . . . it's all good.

I was in a bar one Friday night and a friend came in to tell me that someone hit my car and took off - he got the plate number. The guy apparently picked up a pizza from a pizzeria nearby and backed into my car, got out and inspected the damage and then got back in the car and took off. The damage was relatively minor - less than $100, but because the cowardly fuckwad took off, I called the police who then contacted him telling him he better settle with me. I got an estimate of $700 and he paid it. That's what the dipshit gets for being an asshole. Had he left a note, I would have blown it off and said forget it.

Great! now he knows your name and address and that you charged him $700 for what you and he both knew was very minor damages.

Of course he might not be the kind of person who takes getting ripped off personally, but hey, you never know, either do you?

I live on the end of a dead end street. Seems not many people know how to make 3 point turn anymore. I've had to repair my mailbox post a dozen times in the last 14 years and completely replace at least 6 times.
Only one person has ever left a note and that was the sheriff that was administering the drivers license test to the guy that destroyed it.

As for the original question, I wouldn't leave a note, I'd call the police and report the accident. In the state I live in, leaving the scene of an accident is against the law.

5 years ago, my oldest daughter (16 at the time) backed into a parked car, she called me all panicked. I told her to call the police and report it (no damage to my car, but a big dent in the other car). The police showed up about the same time the owner of the car did. He had a suspended license, therefore his car shouldn't have been on the street. According to the police report, the accident was his fault, so my insurance company was off the hook.

Nobody can match him right now. He's like Edwin Moses and Sergey Bubka rolled into one.

I have his name and address, too. The damage was legitimately $700. I could have gotten by with some polishing compound and a hammer to bang out the dents but to restore it to new, it did cost $700.

I didn't know how to make a three point turn until the day before I took my test. It never occurred to anyone to teach me I guess.

My insurance covered the mailbox and post and any damage to the other car. And no, I've never made an illegal left out of that parking lot again. I go the long way, through two lights. Lesson learned.

Loved the story about your daughter and the unlicensed driver. I got rear ended by an unemployed and uninsured driver six weeks after I dropped collision on my 7 year old Corolla. Stupidly, I didn't call the cops (lesson learned on that one). Spent the time and some money taking him to small claims court; he was a no show. Could have gone after him . . . but for what? His beat up old Buick? Patched the car up and dropped going after the guy. His name was Jimmy Carter. 4 years later I made the illegal turn and the car got hit in the exact same spot. Broken strut, more money to fix than the car was worth so we sold it for $400.

Yeah, I would.

I was sitting in my car in a Wal-Mart parking lot texting someone when a lady walked up to her car, which was parked beside mine. She threw open her door and hit the side of my car loudly. I didn't look up, just to see what she'd do. She paused for a second, got in her car, and drove away.

I didn't care because my car was old and the dent wasn't even noticeable, but damn.

I'll always leave a note.

...if you damaged a parked car in a parking lot, but there was no damage to your vehicle and nobody saw the incident?

Certainly...only the LIBERAL proponent of the "SILVER RULE" would not leave a note and phone number. The Sliver Rule is one that believes in being just and fair as long as there is a chance that some reprisal might come your way if there is a chance that one might get caught. The same person would not consider STEALING someones wallet (because of the fear of getting caught and paying restitution...but let them find a wallet with a few hundred dollars in it laying in a parking lot somewhere), ITS FINDERS KEEPERS. Remove the the fear of reprisal and bingo...you have a secular humanist, who ALWAYS considers HIM/HERSELF before another, the only empathy shown or charity given is when the public spot light is on them.

There are 3 basic rules of human conduct found in the world that guides each person in their personal ideology of life in relation to morality, all are compared to metal. The Iron Rule, The Silver Rule, and the Golden Rule.

1.) The Iron Rule; This rule of human conduct is based upon the principle that MIGHT makes RIGHT, the rule of power and force. One can take anything or gain any position in life they have the physical force and willpower to TAKE from another human being. The advocates of this common rule have been numerous throughout recorded history. Alexander the Great is a prime example. He was considered one the world's greatest military leaders....he took what his might would allow him to take. In a span of just a dozen years he conquered the antique world from Macedon to India. A historical example of his mentality is exampled in recorded history...when he captured the ancient city of GAZA in southwest Palestine he took the governor of this region, drilled holes in his heels and by chariot dragged him around the city until he was dead. Another historical figure abiding by these precepts might be Julius Caesar with his infamous quote, "I came, I saw, I conquered." Hitler would another...history is full of such men with tainted ideologies.

One of the most famous to lend credibility to this rule would be Charles Darwin who demonstrated respectability to this concept in his work....under the full title, "The Origin of Species by Means of Natural Selection, or the Preservation of Favored Species in the Struggle for Life." NATURAL SELECTION was Darwin's tooth and nail law of the jungle. As he propagated that species survive, thrive and develop by destroying their weaker competitors. In the companion book to the Origin of Species.....The Descent of Man published in 1871...we find his direct feelings in propagating this method of human conduct.

"With savages, the weak in body or mind are soon eliminated; and those that survive commonly exhibit a vigorous state of health. We civilized men, on the other hand, do our utmost to check the process of elimination; we build asylums for the imbecile, the maimed, and the sick; we institute poor laws; and our medical men exert their utmost skill to save the life of every human to the last moment. There is reason to believe that vaccination has preserved thousands, who from a weak constitution would formerly have succumbed to small pox. Thus, the weak members of civilized societies propagate their own kind. No one who has attended to the breeding of domestic animals will doubt that this must be highly injurious to the race of man." -- pg. 130, The Decent of Man.

Hitler bought into this Darwinian Cultism totally. And attempted to apply the IRON RULE of life in Europe, in his ambition to develop the SUPERIOR RACE of SUPER HUMANS the mad man....took Darwin at face value and killed millions of INFERIOR people...to include those he considered less than human...the JEWS. America has somewhat followed suit...with the continual attempt by the so called secular liberals to have euthanasia laws placed on the books....and of course the infamous Roe v. Wade opinion that legislated the right to life away for the unborn as SCOTUS declared the unborn....LESS THAN HUMAN. Now where have we heard that type of Fascism before?

2. The Sliver Rule; This rule is often described and compared with the Golden Rule....in the negative or inversion....as it is the Golden Rule, minus the Gold. "What you do not wish done to you....do not do to others." The ancient Greeks historically followed this rule, and example would be the institution of slavery. As "Epictetus" taught that slavery is wrong because it would generate anger in YOU, if you were enslaved. Thus, RECIPROCITY is the standard upon which this rule stands, "What you do not wish for yourself...do not do to others." This rule is negative in fashion as it forbids much, yet enjoins (no authority) nothing, as your conduct is optional. An example was given earlier....none of these people would be found guilty of stealing someones wallet, simply because of the fear of reprisal or punishment...yet if they find something, often times its "finders keepers losers weepers", unless there is some accolade involved or reward and public acknowledgment. You hear it all the time...."Its no skin off my nose...let'em kill each other....its entertaining." Or, "I always take care of number UNO first." We all know these people...they are a plethora here in the United States, as there is no MORAL AUTHORITY in SECULAR NATURALISM....or nature. These people fear only REPRISAL. These people go to church....rush home and turn on the porn...when they believe they cannot be found out.

3. The Golden Rule; Some argue there is no difference between the silver and golden rule...but indeed the Golden Rule is taught with Authority, it is found in the Holy Scriptures...in principal. This rule teaches that men must treat other men with the same respect they expect...with one exception, you are to do so even when the Left hand does not know what the right is doing, YOU EXPECT NOTHING in return, no rewards, no accolade...you do as much simply because it is the righteous thing to do. These people do not fear but ONE LAW....the Law of God.
