Would You Favor Majority Vote?

Who are the nutters and where do i sign up?

Sorry......it requires that one be generally misguided. Those who prefer to sit upon pedestals pretending that "they are all the same" may not apply. There is a difference between being unable to comprehend when one is wrong and being unwilling to take a stand for fear of being wrong.

Misguided according to whom? You mean like being misguided about Global warming and such? I guess we need to send people to "camp" to realign their attitudes and opinions.

Not unlike the general elections, would you be in favor of national votes on issues that are of major concern such as taxes, medicare and other entitlements, job programs, education etc.? A straight up or down vote that can be scheduled as we can deem appropriate. Yearly every six months what ever. It seems as though little is getting done and the outside interests are taking control. The supreme court is a joke. They are appointed therefore are bias from the beginning of their appointment. A national vote would better reflect the nations desire to move in a specific direction on a number of issues. It will be paramount that several free channels be set up with the issues described without commentary. The Oil Sands is a hot topic today. I chose to get the information straight from Canadian resources. The professional Chemists, Geologists etc. How many jobs would be created which both sides lied about but are now walking back. I base my opinions on those facts not those of oil interests and political posturing. This is useful to me not MSNBC or FOX. If we can present the concrete facts then the people can make an informed decision. Well what do you think? Costs can be absorbed by cutting politicians pay and benefits as they are all for sacrifices by all of us.

I would LOVE a secure government web site where we could 'vote' on congressional / presidential / supreme court activity - just to let them know, on a One Social Security Number = One Vote basis, how we feeeeeeeeeeel about the particulars behind the issues.

you couldn't.

With a single vote you could not voice your opinion on the particulars of a bill, since they are often loaded with multiple things ALL in legal lawyer speak that take a degree to comprehend.

it's a nice thought though. Listing bills in common American so that people can get the gist of what's going on.

obama tried that and gave up on it in about 4 months or so.

No. Firstly, because as has already been pointed out, we live with a Constitution, in a federal republic. Secondly, people are generally quite misinformed, ignorant or downright stupid on most 'issues'.

I hear that a lot from nutters. I wonder what steps could be taken to change that "fact"?

Depends on which 'fact' you refer to. If you wish to 'change the 'fact'' of the Constitution, then a revolution would be a good way to change that.

If you refer to people being generally quite misinformed etc, then it is up to each individual to change it. I don't see that happening.

What a shame. I was hoping you'd conclude that we need to spend more resources on education.

Are you now defining what a nutter is? I thought you didn't know?

More on education? Education is a 2 way street. We seem to think people are passive sponges who will learn if enough info is forced down their throats.

Care to be specific?

B/c there's a ton of waste in education.

Lots of useless classes, "free" laptops, lavish plays, etc etc...

No, there is no specificity. It is "let's sign another round of checks" and go about with our golf game. Or, we blame teachers for trying to teach kids who won't behave, are unruly, etc. You can't teach someone who doesn't want to learn. Teachers can do only so much and they do their best. But, if there isn't support from home and community, it is very difficult.

Liberalism has destroyed the poor, their community's and their family units.

School has little to no chance to teach kids who "know" they will live on welfare or run with a gang.

I would have to say no. California's initiative process, which is pretty similar a majority vote, has not served this state well. The voter's keep voting for unicorns that fart gold dust, but then don't vote to upkeep the unicorns. Doesn't work...

Yes. It is an epic human tragedy. Institutionalism destroys people's minds and spirits. Kind of like seeing people in third world nations. They walk around with every natural resource under their two feet but can do nothing to help themselves because of the robber baron govts.

You think there are children who don't want to learn, do ya?

I get the feeling that your idea of "community" has some defined borders....like a block, a neighborhood or a subdivision. Mine encompasses the entire country. You know....that whole "one nation" thing.

We don't need majority votes for laws, what we need is to get all the money out of our political system so that our vote counts for more than the unlimited buckets of cash that are poured on our lawmakers from lobbyists.

My kids go to school with kids that don't want to learn.

it's been blatantly obvious to anyone willing to be honest with themselves.

My oldest son doesn't want to learn. He doesn't need to cuz he already knows everything. I have many go arounds with him and his teachers. His teachers can't spoon feed him and chew for him. There are things he has to do himself.

I'm sorry........but fact that we have neglected education in this country.....which has resulted people not placing education high on their list of priorities......does not mean that there are children who do not want to learn.

You can do that now by calling your Congressman.
