Would it be OK if Christians stole a donkey for Jesus to ride?

Everything under the sun comes from God. You can't steal what is yours.

Jesus rode a colt which had never been ridden, and it was returned. Those who were standing near the colt were wondering what the heck the disciples were doing taking a colt instead of a full grown mule which would be better suited for riding.

As Jesus rode the colt, he wasn't treated like a thief by those people. He was treated like a king. That's why it is called Palm Sunday. They threw flowers and palm tree fronds in his path.

The owner of the colt was never consulted. However, the justification would be that all things belong to God.

edit, but yes, presumably the intent was to return the colt/donkey. I don't think the return is discussed, and given how things turned out on the next Friday, I doubt there was any return. (-:

You want to hear something really profound?

Exodus 13:13: And every firstling of an ass you shall redeem with a lamb; and if you will not redeem it, then you shall break his neck: and all the firstborn of man among your children shall you redeem.

A colt. Firstling of an ass.

Jesus. The redeeming lamb.

Jesus traveling to his own sacrificial execution on the back of a colt.

That is why the colt instead of an adult mule.

From what understand, they asked if they could use it and said it would be returned.

But let's not forget that in Matthew it's a donkey AND a colt tha Jesus rides on (most likely because the author of Matthew was a bad translator)

Why would you want to characterize it as theft??

Ever wonder how Jesus knew the colt would be there and where it would be to send the followers to get??

When confronted by the village town peoples that were there, they followers explained as Jesus had commanded and they were allowed to leave.

How do yo get theft out of that??

Are you so dense that you fail to realize the premonition of that colt, where it would be and what to tell the villagers when confronted?? How did Jesus know of these things and why did the villagers not stop the followers??

Matthew was a cursed tax-collector. He changed his ways when Jesus accepted his invitation to dine at his home and told him and Paul about redemption.....

That's sort of discussed in the link. And, you may be right. But there is a point to this absurdist thread. And, the new testament certainly has purposeful absurdities and ironies. Today, Wednesday, is generally seen as the day on which the Sanhedrin sat in Court to plot Jesus's death, and bribed Judas.

The link that quotes Crossan makes a couple of points that imo are pertinent to the whole debate of Laws to Restore Religious Liberties to discriminate against gays. 1) Jesus rides in on a donkey or colt. Either way its not exactly warlike or powerful. The Sanhedrin claims the power and Pilate had a chariot. 2) The closest Jesus comes to violence was scourging the Temple of the moneylenders, who preyed on the poor who needed money to buy animals to sacrifice otherwise God wouldn't hear their prayers. Jesus wasn't too concerned with commerce. (-: 3) Jesus never takes anything away from a sinner. In fact, I don't think the entire Holy Week has Jesus coming into contact with sinners, like whores taxcollectors and the such. If Jesus ever encountered the gays, I'd guess they'd be with those guys. The Sinners at issue are the political and military powers. The guys who make the laws.

In short, I don't think these pols with their laws have much in common when facing their perceived injustice with guys like Mandela or Rosa Parks.

btw, mods, there was a political aspect of the thread, but have nice days.

You're a real piece of work there bendog, you even lie to yourself.
No wonder you can't understand it.
Asking is not stealing and this has nothing to do with politics.

But I thought all writers and translators of the bible was guided by god?

Some members of this forum have serious issues, no doubt. The posts made today is almost beyond belief, to say the least. It's difficult to believe that with as many serious issues and difficult problems facing all of us and this nation, we're bashing sexual orientation, questioning GOD and religion, and boasting about not being a Liberal, Republican, Democrat, Moderate, Conservative, or whether someone is on the right or on the left.

I understand that it's April Fool's day, but please, give the pathetic a rest already.
