Who says it is? How many Californian's do you imaging live in houses on the beach? There are lot's of lower income folks living two or three families to a house. When I was contracting in San Francisco, a lot of the consultants on my project were sharing a bedroom - not an apartment, a bedroom.
Yeah, that's some good living there.
Because Frisco has very high rents. People are willing to pay the high rents to live there. The misery index usually gets worse in right to work for less, republican run states.
Rents are high because the state and local government severely limit the amount of housing that can be built there.

Yep, rich people can pay those prices. What about people who clean hotels for a living?
It's really tough on working stiffs. Another reason for raising the minimum wage.
Which would cause them to lose their jobs. That' will be much easier on them when they earn zero.
