HAIL & FIRE - Richard Baxter Quotes (Words of Wisdom: Reformed & Puritan)

"A hard heart now makes heaven and hell seem but trifles. We have showed them everlasting glory and misery, and they are as men asleep; our words are as stones cast against a wall, which fly back in our faces. We talk of terrible things, but it is to dead men; we search the wounds, but they never feel it; we speak to rocks rather than to men; the earth will as soon tremble as they. But when these dead souls are revived, what passionate sensibility, what working affections, what pangs of horror, what depths of sorrow will there then be! How violently will they denounce and reproach themselves! How will they rage against their former madness! The lamentations of the most affectionate wife for the loss of her husband, or of the tenderest mother for the loss of her children, will be nothing to theirs for the loss of heaven." - Richard Baxter

"Doth any man live more to himself, or less to God, than the proud?" - Richard Baxter

"Any man who disturbs the false peace of sinners, must expect to be ill-treated, and reproached and defamed.” - Thomas Wilson

"To pretend to preach the truth without offending carnal men, is to pretend to be able to do what Jesus Christ could not do." - Thomas Wilson

"Study, not to be more knowing, but to be more holy, and to make others so. ... It is one thing for a man to fill his understanding and memory with truths, and another, to nourish his heart with them.”
-Thomas Wilson

"Has not God himself instituted marriage, as a means to satisfy the craving for love in all men. ... (Whose) heart is not unresponsive to nature, into which God has placed all creatures for enjoyment. ... For those are speaking lies in hypocrisy, who have a seared conscience, who forbid a life in marriage and abstain from foods which God has created (1 Timothy 4:1-5). I hold this to be the seed of iniquity and the root of all evil."
- John Hus

Salvation of One's Enemies:

“O Lord, Jesus Christ, into thine hands I deliver my soul, which thou hast redeemed with thy blood. Father in Heaven, do not hold against them the sins which my enemies commit against me, and let mine eyes see them blissfully with thee, when their souls fly to thy throne after an easy death. Oh Holy Spirit, enlighten their deceived hearts, so that the truth of the holy Gospel may open their eyes and its praise be spread everywhere, forever and ever, Amen.” - John Hus

William Gurnall Quotes (Author of The Christian in Complete Armour)

“We fear men so much, because we fear God so little.”
― William Gurnall

“Cowards never won heaven. Do not claim that you are begotten of God and you have His royal blood running in your veins unless you can prove your lineage by His heroic spirit: to dare to be holy in spite of men and devils.”
― William Gurnall

“Many lose heaven because they are ashamed to go in a fool's coat thither.”
― William Gurnall

“Some prayers have a longer voyage than others, but they return with the richer lading at last, so that the praying soul is a gainer by waiting for an answer.”
― William Gurnall

“A pilot without his chart, a scholar without his book, and a soldier without his sword, are alike ridiculous. But, above all these, it is absurd for one to think of being a Christian, without knowledge of the word of God and some skill to use this weapon. - William Gurnall, The Christian in Complete Armour”

HUS, JOHN 1372-1415ad), John Hus (John Huss or Jan Hus) was a Bohemian (Czech) Protestant Reformer. He was accused of heresy and lured to the Council of Constance with a promise of safe conduct. Quote on Faith is the Gift of God, by the Power of God; but Unbiblical Beliefs spring from Men's Own Willful Sins (Ephesians 2:8-9; James 1:13-15):

“No one is held to believe anything except what he is moved by God to believe but God moves no man to believe what is false." - John Huss

JOHN ANGELL JAMES or J. A. James (1785-1859) was an English Nonconformist Preacher and an Abolitionist of Slavery.

Quote on a Good Christian is a Good Spouse and Parent, etc:

WILLIAM TYNDALE (1494-1536ad), William Tyndale (or William Tindal) was an English Reformer (known as 'the Apostle of England in the time of the Reformation') and the translator of the first English New Testament from the Greek (1526). Tyndale was martyred for his translation work and his writings in the defence of Biblical Christianity. Tyndale was hunted as a heretic, taken and imprissioned under the laws of the Church; after being condemned for heresy, he was formally stripped of his priesthood, strangled and then burned at the stake. Tyndale's English Translation is read yet today as the greater part of the King James Bible, first published in 1611.

Quote on: A Testing of Your Faith:

"The Spirit and his fruits wherewith the heart is purified, as faith, hope, love, patience, longsuffering and obedience, could never be seen without outward experience. For if you were not brought sometime into cumbrance [difficulty], when God only could deliver you, you would never see your faith. Yea, except you fought sometime against desperation, hell, death, sin, and the powers of this world for your faith's sake, you would never know true faith from a dream. Except your brother now and then offend you, you could not know whether your love were godly. An unbeliever is not angry until he is hurt and offended: but if you love him that does the evil, then is your love of God. And when you hurt not your neighbors, then you are sure that God's Spirit works in you and that your faith in no dream nor false imagination." - William Tyndale, "The Obedience of a Christian Man" (1528)

John Hus was burned to death at the stake by the Roman Catholic Church. He was not an anti-Semite. Anti-Semitic writings / quotations that are attributed to Martin Luther and others who were targets of the Vatican were actually written by Jesuits who sought to mar their names and destroy their testimonies. John Hus was a righteous man. He stays.

WILSON, THOMAS - Thomas Wilson was an English Preacher.

Quote on Fearing God's Wrath:

“Men are too apt to flatter themselves that God will not be so severe as He has threatened. This hardens men in sin, and makes them boldly venture upon damnation. This is to represent God as a God not terrible in judgment. Let a just fear of God's vengeance have its proper effect, etc. The Spirit of God makes use of flames, of fire and brimstone, to awaken us, to represent it to us. ... A man has no other security of his virtue, but the fear of offending God." - Thomas Wilson

WILBERFORCE, WILLIAM (1759-1833ad), William Wilberforce was an English Politician and a leading Abolitionist to end the slave trade in England.

Quote on No Salvation without Repentance from Sin; some vainly trust in Christ's mercy and pardon although they do not repent from sin:

“The apostles ... in addressing others also whom they conceive to be living in habits of sin, and under the wrath of God, they rather advise them to amend their ways as a preparation for their coming to Christ, than exhort them to throw themselves with deep prostration of soul at the foot of the cross, there to obtain pardon and find grace to help in time of need. ... Doubtless there have been too many who, to their eternal ruin, have abused the doctrine of Salvation by Grace; and have vainly trusted in Christ for pardon and acceptance, when by their vicious lives they have plainly proved the groundlessness of their pretensions. The tree is to be known by its fruits; and there is too much reason to fear that there is no principle of faith, when it does not decidedly evince itself by the fruits of holiness. ... Repentance towards God, and faith towards our Lord Jesus Christ, was the sum of the apostolical instructions." - William Wilberforce

WATSON, THOMAS (1620-1686ad), Thomas Watson was a Doctor of Divinity, English Puritan Divine and Preacher of the Gospel.

Quote on Evidence that Sin is Worse than Affliction:

“That sin is worse than affliction is evident because the greatest judgment God lays upon a man in this life is to let him sin without control. When the Lord's displeasure is most severely kindled against a person, he does not say, I will bring the sword and the plague on this man, but I will let him sin on: 'So I gave them up unto their own hearts' lust' (Psalm 81.12). Now, if the giving up of a man to his sins (in the account of God himself) is the most dreadful evil, then sin is far worse than affliction. And if it be so, then how should it be hated by us!”
- Thomas Watson

TAYLOR, THOMAS (1576-1632), Thomas Taylor was a Puritan Preacher who, at the age of only 25, preached before Queen Elizabeth I of England; he came to be known as "a brazen wall against Popery."

Quote on Differences between a Hard Heart and a Soft Heart:

“Unfeelingness of hardness, and unwillingness to feel it: no mislike of it, no desire to understand the danger of it. When men desire to sit quiet in sin, and nothing so offends them, as to hear their sin disgraced; when they turn their backs, and stop their ears, Zech. 7:11. Being as loath to be drawn to a sermon powerful against sin, as Israel to come near the mountain. Whereas a soft heart is most sensible of much hardness in it, and counts no burden comparable." - Thomas Taylor

SIBBES, RICHARD (1577-1635), Richard Sibbes was an English Puritan Preacher.

Quote on Discouragementin Trials and Temptations:

“Suffering brings discouragements, because of our impatience. 'Alas!' We lament, 'I shall never get through such a trial.' But if God brings us into the trial he will be with us in the trial and at length bring us out, more refined. We shall lose nothing but dross (Zechariah 13:9). From our own strength we cannot bear the least trouble, but by the Spirit's assistance we can bear the greatest." - Richard Sibbes

I am not sure of HUS-----but as to Martin Luther----he was a rabid anti semite------the Jesuits did not DO it to him. I grew up with LUTHERANS from Germany, Austria, Bavaria etc-----

PARR, ELNATHAN (1597-1632), Elnathan Parr was a Minister of the Word of God.

Quote on Diligence in Studying the Word of God:

"The more plentifully the Lord gives the means, the more fearful is our blindness, and the nearer we are to judgment, if we make not good use of it. When John the Baptist preached repentance, and the kingdom of God, he said, Now is the axe laid, etc. (Matthew 3:10 or Luke 3:9), as if he should have said: Howsoever God has hitherto spared, yet when the Son from the Father's bosom shall teach, he that hears not now, shall be hewn down, and cast into the fire. How culpable in this way our English nation is, is too manifest, and what we have cause to expect, for it I tremble to write." - Elnathan Parr

This might be too deep for you Jeremiah but others will get it...Wisdom or you are Wis(e) to be DUM(b)... You Jeremiah are Wise in the ways of Jesus but Dumb in the ways of Gd the father...In order to have the father you don't need your Jesus or WORD because in order to get to the father the way was written long ago in the Jewish scriptures... It is only afterwards that your group came along and wrote your WORD Your Jesus and placed it on top of the Naked Truth of the Jewish Scriptures and tried to cover it up with your Wisedum..... Wink...

You may have met "Lutherans" but you never met "Martin Luther." The man who stood against Rome would never write what has been attributed to him (about the Jews). It was the Jesuits!

Now please read this and ask yourself how it could be possible for any man who feared the LORD as much as Martin Luther to have have dared to utter or write any such thing against the Jewish people. I can tell you without reservation - it is impossible. Luther was not an anti-Semite. Nor did he pen those words that depicted him as one. The Jesuits wrote it in order to destroy his testimony.

Luther never wrote antisemitic book "On the Jews and their Lies" • /r/Protestantism

“What shall we Christians do with this rejected and condemned people, the Jews? . . . I shall give you my sincere advice [Without a Biblical citation?]:

First, to set fire to their synagogues or schools and to bury and cover with dirt whatever will not burn, so that no man will ever again see a stone or cinder of them [No such language is found in any of his works!] . . .

Second, I advise that their houses also be razed and destroyed. For they pursue in them the same aims as in their synagogues. Instead they might be lodged under a roof or in a barn, like the gypsies [More Romanism!] . . .

Third, I advise that all their prayer books and Talmudic writings . . . be taken from them [yet Luther’s Commentary on Romans (Chapters 9-11) is void of this language] . . .

Fourth, I advise that their rabbis be forbidden to teach henceforth on pain of loss of life and limb [Luther never even said this of the Pope!] . . .

Fifth, I advise that safe-conduct on the highways be abolished completely for the Jews [the very safe-conduct which saved Luther’s life from the kidnappers of the Papal Legate who would have brought him to Rome for his trial and execution, he now would forbid to the persecuted Jews?] . . .

Sixth, I advise that all cash and treasure of silver and gold be taken from them and put aside for safekeeping . . . [Luther advocating grand theft? This is the language of the Jesuits and the works of their Holy Office of the Inquisition, including Hitler’s Third Reich whose National Reich Church forbade the publishing and dissemination of Luther’s Bible in Germany] . . .

Seventh, I recommend putting a flail, an ax, a hoe, a spade, a distaff, or spindle into the hands of young Jews and Jewesses and letting them earn their bread in the sweat of their brow, as was imposed on the children of Adam [i.e., forced labor in the Pope’s Nazi SS concentration camps as preached by Masonic Lutheran Jesuit Temporal Coadjutor and mentor of Hitler, ex-priest Joerg Lanz von Liebenfels] . . .

Accordingly, it must and dare not be considered a trifling matter, but a most serious one, to seek counsel against this and to save our souls from the Jews, that is, from the devil and from eternal death [Rome’s Jesuit doctrine of salvation by works so hated by Luther? How crazy!] . . . Burn down their synagogues, forbid all that I enumerated earlier, force them to work, and deal harshly with them, as Moses did in the wilderness, slaying three thousand lest the whole people perish [Moses never slew them!] . . . There it would be wrong to be merciful and confirm them in their conduct. If this does not help we must drive them out like mad dogs [as did the Nazis] so that we do not become partakers of their other vices and thus merit God’s wrath and be damned with them [again, the Jesuits’ heresy of “salvation by works” whereby they can advise a man to commit the most horrid of crimes for which his soul will be saved from eternal death].” {132}

Did not Jesuit Generals Ledochowski (1915-1942) and Janssens (1946-1964), using their Society of Jesus in control of Roman Catholic Hitler’s Nazis and the Jewish Labor Zionists, do all these things to the pitiful Jews of Europe only sixtyfive years ago?

Dear truth-seeker, Martin Luther never wrote these words, as they do not comprise his style nor convey his Biblical, doctrinal convictions.

Written after his death in 1546 and then deceitfully attributed to the Great Reformer as having been penned by him in 1543, these are the cruel words of the Jesuits betraying their doctrines championed by their evil Council of Trent!

These doctrines were further advocated in Hitler’s Mein Kampf, the volume having been secretly authored by a priest and member of Munich’s Masonic Thule Society working for the Company, Bernhardt Stempfle.

These Jesuit lies and slanders were further calculated to unite Masonic, Bible-rejecting Lutheran Prussians (corrupted by the rationalism of the Jesuits having penetrated their seminaries) and Bible-rejecting Roman Catholics of Germany against the Jewish Race—even as the Jesuits are doing in Fourteenth Amendment America at this very moment via the Pope’s international pornography king, Knight of St. Gregory and Fox Network mogul, Rupert Murdoch, whose mother was an Orthodox Jew!

Indeed, the Society of Jesus is presently doing the exact same thing right here within our post- Reformation, apostate, Bible-rejecting, atheistic, hedonistic, and Jesuitized American Empire.

From the beginning of World War I to the end of World War II, the Jesuit Order turned these Jew-hating doctrines into bloody deeds while taking vengeance on a Europe and an Asia having expelled the Devil’s Company during the Nineteenth Century—its "Century of Disaster."

Wink...

I cannot convince you of this, Shimon, but I hold nothing in my heart for you or HaShev but G-d's love. I pray G-d's very best for you. I pray G-d protect and keep you, bless your entire household, your possessions all the days of your lives.

You say I do not understand the ways of G-d? This is true. You do not understand the ways of G-d either. Who can know the ways of God?

It is written:

For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the Lord. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts.
Isaiah 55:8-9

Ah Jeremiah you invited me back .. Thank you....Psalm 103:7 He made known his ways unto Moses his acts unto the children of Israel...So in other words we are warned and told In Deutoronomy to neither add or delete to the words written there.. So the children of Israel wrote it all down in the Jewish scriptures so that if any Johnny come lately people came along like Christianity and added or deleted words, letters etc etc we were to know it was a false doctrine and a vain vision and fantasy of epic proportions( big lies must be covered up with even bigger ones)... In other words pay attention the children of Israel wandered in the wilderness of SIN(ia) till they got the Law... Once they got the law and wrote it all down they knew the ways of Gd the father... It was their choice whether they followed them or not it is called free will.....Plain , simple and to the point..... They didn't need your new found WISE DUMB of the New Testament with its vain image and false promises.... Wink....

Who made known to Moses His ways? Moses? No. G-d made known His ways to Moses. Apart from G-d, Moses could know nothing. Whom did G-d make known His acts? To the children of Israel. To know G-d's ways and to know His acts are two different things, Shimon.

It is written:
He made known his ways unto Moses, his acts unto the children of Israel.
Psalm 103:7 (*KJV Holy Bible)

Had G-d made known to you His Ways, you would first have to know the LORD Moses knew. You would understand His plan of salvation through His Only Begotten Son, Jesus Christ. G-d has made known to me His ways concerning a particular matter before, but I cannot know the ways of God apart from Him revealing them to me anymore than Moses could.

Jesus said:

For had ye believed Moses, ye would have believed me; for he wrote of me. But if ye believe not his writings, how shall ye believe my words?
John 5:46, 47 (KJV Holy Bible)

Psalm 103:7 in the KJV Holy Bible - nothing has been added or deleted. My Book lines up with your own Book word for word in this Scripture.

It just goes to show us you have a reading and comprehension disability Jeremiah your idol or logos words Jesus were added later many many many years after the Jewish scriptures were written and codified showing your group are not only liars but deceivers as well... Every time you are shown up as being as deceptive as those words that your supposed idol made...So once again in case you failed to comprehend we are told to neither add or delete to the Jewish scriptures as per Deutoronomy so since you quoted John which is not from the Jewish scriptures then it is not worth the paper it is written on and the only place it is suitable for is for use in the "John "if you get what I mean.... Course then it can keep company with that wafer that you are so fond of that is supposed to be the body of Jesus as those two items can be joined together as they go down the septic Nile to their proper destination....
