The whole group in that subway car could have easily grabbed the young gentleman and held him for the cops.

But they didn't probably because:

1. They didn't want to get involved. The cops might have told them that they would have to take time off at work to testify in court, where the perp would just get probation anyway.

2. They were terrified of being accused of "racism" if they had grabbed the young gentleman perp!
