I just watched the documentary "hunting the President" I knew a lot of that but it was almost surreal to see it laid out like that. The time, expense and organization that went into bringing down Bill Clinton is staggering.

People forced to lie or face jail time, lives ruined, people bankrupt. Tax payer money wasted, all to prove that Clinton had an affair while married.

The media played a huge role in it too so that begs the question, when did the media become left wing instead of right wing?

My real fear is that when and if Obama wins there will be an organized and dare I say, dangerous effort to bring him down, at any cost.

Good points.

Yes.

Reactionaries and conservatives always need an enemy. If you've notice from this board, they thrive on fear. Sometimes hate. Obama=terrorist, communist, socialist, radical muslim. Hate and fear drive reactionaries, its been that way throughout history. Ever since the collapse of the soviet union, the rightwing's imaginary boogeyman has been replaced by liberals, gays, and democrats.

So yes, there will always be a concerted effort to bring down a democratic president. I never understood why they hated Clinton, he gave them most of what they wanted. And Clinton wasn't any left wing liberal by any stretch.

You mean what the left has tried to do to Bush? Count on it.

Bush never had any serious resistance from Democrats until about 2004 or 2005, after he blundered us into the most costly and foolish war in american history. He proved himself incapable of being a competent president, he drove this nation over the cliff on the economy, on foreign policy, and in matters of war.

He should be impeached. Are you happy with the job he's done?

Prior to 2004, the democrats rolled over and gave bush nearly everything he wanted. The tax cuts, the war, deregulation. If Bush hadn't invaded iraq and proven to be such an incompetent steward of the economy and of the government, he never would be in the position he is now.

In contrast, Clinton did a freaking fantastic job by comparison.

A valid concern... My hope is that Obama will do a much better job of including the republicans in his vision for the future than Clinton or Bush did for their oppositions. That will leave the truly political whiners crying to no one but themselves in Manifolds sandbox.

Like Gunny says--count on it. Did you really expect that the republicans were jsut going to say " ok, we're even " ?

I love how the Democrats create the vacuum of non regulation and the motive for bad loans and BUSH fights to rein it in against DEMOCRATS, yet gets blamed for the Housing crash.

Can we say partisan BULLSHIT?

McCain's Economic Adviser is ex-Texas Sen. Phil Gramm. On Dec. 15, 2000, hours before Congress was to leave for Christmas recess, Gramm had a 262-page amendment slipped into the appropriations bill. It forbade federal agencies to regulate the financial derivatives that greased the skids for passing along risky mortgage-backed securities to investors. And that, my friends, is why everything's falling apart. That is why the taxpayers are now on the hook for the follies of Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, Bear Stearns and now the insurance giant AIG to the tune of $700 billion.

Clinton deserve it..if he had just fucked her like a normal person... and maybe because he had affection for her... but a cigar..what a freak.. and he didn't give a rats ass about her ..and then that little whore Monica ..oh its my blue cum dress from bill... i like to sniff it ...maybe will let you sniff it...all a bunch o freaks

You got your numbers mixed up. Should be 2001 when the shit started with only a lull following 9/11. Don't know who you think you're trying to kid.

The rest of your baseless bullshit isn't worth a response. Or feel free to browse the Iraq forum. It's been addressed at least a thousand times and your side has been wrong all 1000 of them.

Oh Hell no. Not just actual Republicans .... anyone not drinking the Koolaid that is automatically relegated to "Republican" status whether they are or aren't.

What goes around comes around and any leftwinggoobs that aren't prepared to take each and every Obama miscue and failure square in the face need to rethink their positions.

I will say however, I won't go so far as to make 90% of them up as the left has done the past 8 years. If he manages to get elected, Obama will have enough legitimate screwups to rake over the coals.

:blahblah:

Get a new line, sock puppet.

Unlikely.

They will not have the power in Congress to harass the POTUS.

The right might be too busy defending their minions in court for the various suspect actions they took at the behest of Bush II, too.

I suspect there's going to a be a host of scandals coming to the fore once the Neo-cons no longer control the offical records.

Translation: Even more tax dollars will be spent on special investigation afte special investigation to make sure Bob the Republican didn't drink more than his share of coffee over the past 8 years.

Great. Can't wait.

do you actually relate it so simply Gunny? that someone "drank too much coffee".....

The Bush Administration has been so secretive and dishonest in the last 8 years that I'm not sure what they've done behind closed doors, are you?

and comparing what happened with Bush to Clinton is laughable. I don't recall a special prosecutor being assigned to investigate Bush's PRIOR relationships and business dealings before he took office, hell there isn't even a special prosecutor over Iraq and 9/11. :cuckoo:

Ken Star set out to destroy the Clintons. he was well funded and backed up by organized groups hell bent on undoing what they saw as a mistake by the American people for electing him President.

I think they will try to do what they did to Clinton, however I don't think the American people, by and large, will sit back and watch it unfold without taking action.

I think the days of the Republican smear machine are coming to an end, as evidenced by the negative reaction to McCain's campaign of fear and smears.

Gunny is right.

The last thing a true leader would do is divide this country farther by investigating every little thing. This is not to say the corruption on both sides does not need to be investigated to a stop, but if either party pushes anything as hard as the republicans pushed the Star investigations, we need to call 'bullshit' immediately.

Not if We, The People don't demand it.

Keep your Congressional e-mail list handy... the real work begins on January 20, unless Bush gets really stupid between November 5 and Inauguration Day.

True corruption should be ferreted out and brought to justice.

Failure to do so encourages more of it.
