This country was 90% white until the 1965 immigration act. The sad truth is the people coming here that aren't white are mostly coming from the slums to our south. Mostly socialist in nature that don't want to better this country. When this nation is turned into that it will be a sad day.

Karl Rove saw the need to include non-whites. The Bush "Ownership Society" targeted blacks and latinos, especially through housing policy where modifications were made to downpayment and loan regulations to get more poor blacks and latinos into homes. This is what Thatcher tried. It's based on the theory that people with more "skin in the game" are more likely to vote Republican and support property rights over social programs and public investment.

Rove was right. The GOP needed to include these burgeoning demographics in order to keep winning elections. But this created a problem. Please recall: they broke the New Deal coalition and flipped the solid south by agitating white backlash over Civil Rights. This evolved into a wider appeal to nativism which held that whites were the Real Americans, and every other group was inferior, atavistic, and illegitimate. Listen to how talk radio frames the debate over "illegals" or Islamo-fascists.

Needless to say, the GOP has a conflict between their need to include "external" groups (so they can grow the party), and their need to exploit white fear over these same groups (so they can keep their base stirred up). In short, the question is: how do they pull in Latinos and exploit fear over Mexifornia?

My sense is that the GOP has enough media control to tell each group what they want to hear. Look at what they do in Florida. When they're in front of the business community, they promise to gut entitlements so they can lower taxes. When they're in front of the elderly, they promise to save those same entitlements.

You'd think their voters would get wise to this, but most Republican voters depend so deeply on Government (the Republican Party) for information that they can't see this stuff. This is why they created FOX News, the Heritage Foundation, and American Enterprise Institute. They realized in the 70s that it was going to be very hard to take over the country with policies that served only a small class of investors who benefited by outsourcing American jobs. So they created a powerful ideological message system and trapped people in a hermetically sealed info bubbles. This enslavement within a narrow info-buble allows them to turn Bin Laden into Hussein, and Health Care reform into death panels.

Regardless . . . the Left doesn't get it. The game is over. The Right has won. Their 30 year investment into mass media has been successful beyond anyone's wildest dreams.

My wife is Hispanic, and she told me something interesting the other day:

She was watching the news on Univision. A reporter was interviewing Latinos about who they planned to vote for. They all said they planned on voting Republican because the economy was better when they were in control. You see, Latinos care about more than getting their relatives over the border. They want to work.

I've seen parts of that Univision interview on FNC, but none on MSNBC.

We were playing a drinking game during the political conventions where you drink every time you see a minority in the crowd. During the RNC, we made it through maybe three or four beers during the entirety of the convention. During the DNC, we were smashed within the first hour. The Republicans will forever be paranoid white people who originate from the country and small towns. If anything, I would suspect gays to infiltrate the GOP before minorities.
