Why the US will have to negotiate with the Taliban

Or...We could just piss on em?

Yea, and considering the fallout of even the smallest, it would have to be a non-nuclear high capacity bomb.

I suppose that is based on the objective...

The United Stats has the capabilities to turn deserts into glass...

So it's ok for innocent people to die?

I would say that would make us far more evil than our enemy.

I clearly stated the military complex...

Irans military complex is far from innocent..

IMO

- the ONLY time it is EVER ok to go to war is when the alternative is the literal destruction of our nation - and in that case, if that is truly the only alternative, then yes, it is OK for us to kill innocents. If we can get away without killing innocents - we should do that, but rarely in history has any nation, in a true fight for its very survival, been able to protect itself without killing innocents. The last time this nation was in a war for its very survival it killed hundreds of thousands of innocents. Hiroshima and Nagasaki were just the tip of the ice berg on that one, we had been opening up the bomb bay doors and carpet bombing civilian centers with the sole intent of terrorizing the populace and breaking the will of the enemy to fight, and quite simply, killing as many people as possible - and it was all OK, because it was quite literally our only alternative to our nation eventually being invaded and occupied by the enemy.

Conversely - even one death of an innocent in a war we don't need to fight - is wrong.

Basically - if you aren't willing to kill everyone and everything that is the enemy - women, children, and men, in a giant fireball if you have to -- you shouldn't conduct any foreign military action at all. And - God forbid - we are ever engaged for a true fight for survival that requires us to take the fight to foreign soil - use the F'ing BOMB right away.

And now it's a heartbreak again. I've been fighting for Afghan womens rights for a decade and a half. And now here we go again.

Women will be forced to stay in their homes. Covered head to toe with only a slit to be able to see where they can walk when they are let out.Children won't be allowed to fly kites because the Koran might have been recycled to make the kite.
All gays will be hung or stoned to death. This is a sad day. And some asswipe will come on tv tonight on the CBC and crow about freedom from western influences as troops withdraw.
Afghan women will be better off when busy bodies like you and your friends are banned from the country under the new Taliban controlled government.

Bush rejects Taliban offer to hand Bin Laden over

guardian.co.uk, Sunday 14 October 2001 17.19 EDT

Bush's refusal to accept the Taliban's offer concerning the handing over of Osama bin Laden was criminal.

His obstinance cost 5,000 soldiers lives and a couple of trillion dollars over 9 long years looking for a man in a cave that wasn't there and invading another country; Iraq, just for giggles.

Sunni.. You should do a little research. Afghan women did not choose the life they have. It was imposed upon them by military force in the mid 1990's. The Taliban took a nation that was fairly progressive at one point and launched it back to the stone age. The Taliban was not elected by Afghanis. They ruled by fiat.

The word "progressive" is code for "Westernized/secular".

I have a personal friend who was a journalist in Afghanistan. He told me that the Afghan people were extremely happy when Taliban rolled into town and took over. The Taliban brought stability to the country which had descended into chaos after the Soviets left.

The Taliban restored law and order; and totally eradicated poppy cultivation and the herion trade.

The Taliban eventually controlled 90% of Afghanistan. The local economy was starting to recover and the people began to one again have hope. Afghanistan was going to once again become an Islamic nation using Sharia Law as it's legal system.

Of course that's not what the media tells the American people. :doubt:

Sharia law is barbaric to women and vews them as second class citizens!

After all these years and the Taliban is still THE major force within Afghanistan. Why is that?

Remember, even inside the old USSR and inside Modern China, still religion has a foothold. The Taliban in Afghanistan is their state church. You can't stomp it out unless you kill everyone.

Many Republicans believe (they believe so many odd and strange things) that the Taliban was part of the WTC Terrorist attack because they wouldn't give up al Qaeda. But we now know in their culture, you can't "turn over" an honored guest once you have accepted them into your home. And remember, al Qaeda fought with the Taliban against Soviet Incursion. They were most certainly "honored guests".

Republicans, even if they cared, don't understand this. Remember, John McCain didn't even know the difference between Sunni and Shiite. Add in the Republicans complete lack of understanding in this country of anyone other than a white conservative and you have a recipe for disaster.

Obama is going to have to cut a deal with the Taliban. There is not a shred of evidence that the Taliban had a hand in 9/11. Considering where all the bombers came from, the US is probably looking in the wrong country.

Hopefully, Obama will be re-elected. We need a president who will get this country out of Afghanistan and you know that no Republican will do that. Republicans see foreign wars as highly profitable ways to make lots of money. And we only lose a few poor kids so it's a "Win-Win". Money to people already rich versus the cost of the lives of a few poor kids. Eliminate abortion laws and they can be replaced easily enough.

We will be stuck there until after the presidential elections because Republicans will never, ever allow peace between the US and the Taliban. They would say Obama is friends with terrorists and that's the proof.

Remember, the generals told us Gitmo was a "recruiting tool" for al Qaeda. Republicans say that if you close Gitmo you will have to release terrorists onto the streets and into backyards as if they never heard of "maximum security prisons" before. So sick of this "willful ignorance".

Republicans know this and fought to keep it open even though it threatens the lives of young patriotic American soldiers. They don't care. It's all about getting the black guy out of the WHITE House. If they can't control the country, they will see it destroyed. Like a dog guarding a pile of hay, their natural instinct is to keep others from using it even when they have no use for it.

By your reasoning we were honored guests too. So that point is mute. Obama negotiating with Terrorists must seem reasonable to you. I think you are a better recruiting tool for terrorists than Gitmo.

The Taliban had nothing to do with 9/11

So why do we call them terrorists and blame them?

But, they harbored and protected the person who was behind it!
All the Taliban initially asked for was evidence that bin Laden was involved or responsible for 9/11

If we would have provided it.

They would gladly have turned him over to a third party for trial.

But Pres. Bush refused, and the rest is history.

I think it ran a little deeper than that Sunni.

geez, rdean. you are sounding a lot like ron paul. why don't you just vote for him? You know he will end this foreign conundrum.

Ron Paul is a terrible person. His campaign manager from the last election raised tens of millions of dollars for Paul, but when he got cancer, he was uninsured and ended up owing over $400,000.00 and Paul did nothing to help him.

The irony is that if the guy had lived a little longer, Obamacare might have saved him.

It's so cute when RDean goes on this little rant in particular, goochie goochie goooo!!!!

This is where you challenge him to provide proof that Obama has ever paid for any of his campaign worker's medical bills, and he pretends not to read your post.

Then you try to talk to RDean about alllllllllllll the free medical care Dr. Paul has personally provided those who didn't have the financial means to pay him, and ask for any parallel of Obama having done this by going out of his way to pay for poor people's medical bills out of his own pocket.

After you do that, you'll hear nothing but crickets.

The Taliban refused to let UNICOL run an oil pipe line across Afghanistan.

Plus, they stopped all poppy cultivation and destroyed the herion trade.

Those are the real reasons for the invasion and occupation.

Osama bin Laden was just the excuse. :doubt:

No, it doesn't; but that's the western media spin, so it must be true. :doubt:

There are issues with Sharia Sunni. Zero tolerance for Religious Conversion away from Islam, for one. It shouldn't be a Death Sentence. Then there is the issue of Equal Right's/Equal Protection. Not saying we All don't have a long way to go.

I'm betting your friend was not a woman. And the Taliban never eradicated the heroin trade.

Gender policies

A member of the Taliban's religious police beats a woman in Kabul on August 26, 2001. The footage, filmed by the Revolutionary Association of the Women of Afghanistan, can be seen here.
From the age of eight, women were not allowed to be in direct contact with men, other than a close blood relative, husband, or in-law (see mahram).[9] Other restrictions were:
Women should not appear in the streets without a blood relative and without wearing a Burqa (also Burkha, Burka or Burqua).
Women should not wear high-heeled shoes as no man should hear a woman’s footsteps lest it excite him.
Women must not speak loudly in public as no stranger should hear a woman's voice.[10]
All ground and first floor residential windows should be painted over or screened to prevent women being visible from the street.
The photographing or filming of women was banned as was displaying pictures of females in newspapers, books, shops or the home.
The modification of any place names that included the word "women." For example, "women's garden" was renamed "spring garden".[11]
Women were forbidden to appear on the balconies of their apartments or houses.
Ban on women's presence on radio, television or at public gatherings of any kind.[12]
[edit]Mobility
The Taliban rulings regarding public conduct placed severe restrictions on a woman's freedom of movement and created difficulties for those who could not afford a burqa or didn't have any mahram. These women faced virtual house arrest.[2] A woman who was badly beaten by the Taliban for walking the streets alone stated "my father was killed in battle...I have no husband, no brother, no son. How am I to live if I can't go out alone?"[13]
A field worker for the NGO Terre des hommes witnessed the impact on female mobility at Kabul's largest state-run orphanage, Taskia Maskan. After the female staff was relieved of their duties, the approximately 400 girls living at the institution were locked inside for a year without being allowed outside for recreation.[9] Decrees that affected women’s mobility were:
Ban on women riding bicycles or motorcycles, even with their mahrams.
Women were forbidden to ride in a taxi without a mahram.
Segregated bus services introduced to prevent males and females traveling on the same bus.[10]
The lives of rural women were less dramatically impacted as they generally lived and worked within secure kin environments. A relative level of freedom was necessary for them to continue with their chores or labor. If these women traveled to a nearby town, the same urban restrictions would have applied to them.[1]
