Everything you just said you stand for is EXACTLY what the #OccupyWallStreet movement stands for.It shouldn't cost 1 billion dollars for a campaign. Crap like this shows our politicians only care about money and how much they can raise, those pay offs are sweet.
My answer, limit the amount that can be spent. The Presidency pays $400,000.00 per year, that's it, that's all anyone can spend to get elected, same for congressmen, $174,000 for senators and representatives. Same for judges, governors, mayors, etc.
If you limit the amount of money they can use, you eliminate a lot of palms being greased. To keep it out of court, limit the total amount not the amount each person can donate.
Imagine that.
I guess I should expect partisanship from a rabid rightwinger. I guess you imagine that it will cost much less for the or any future Republican candidate to run and possibly win the Presidential Office? And that's for the position of President.
The other government local and statewide also cost a pretty penny and rising.
Who agrees with these exorbitant prices for these public offices?
What kind of representative you think will win when it costs so much to run and win for office?
You think it will ever make a difference who wins with things going on like this?
Your thoughts.
And yes, this is a non-partisan thread from MarcATL. Knock yourselves out.
Lawyers cost money. Image consultants cost money. Makeup and hair specialists costs money. Silk Hugo Boss and Armani suits cost money. Opposition research costs money. Bus tours cost money. Feature length films about the Osama Bin Laden takedown costs money.
It takes a ton of money to make Obama look good when he can't even run on his record.
Marc that's the message you're getting from OWS?? If so why are they on Wall Street and not at the Capitol?? I'm confused. Politicians can stop giving in to the lobbyists, Wall Street will never stop handing out $ as long as our elected officials take it.
I also agree wholeheartedly with limiting the time for campaigning. How can they do their job when their out on the trail 2 years before the election.
There have been some great ideas, thanks for this thread.
