Why does America think the GOP only cares for the Wealthy?

I have been asking that question for months, and still haven't had a difinitive answer.

Would one of these brilliant Liberals please tell us - at what point is one rich? Can you provide an annual income level / a baseline that draws the line between middle class and rich?

Thanks...
According to Obama its 250K. I am REP and I am defiantly not RICH, grew up in poverty and now live middle class. We live within our means unlike the government. Its not a revenue problem , Washington DC spending problem!!!

"Rich" is not so easy to define by income level. You must include geographic location and family size.

One with a family of 4 in NYC is not nearly as comfortable as one in Iowa with a family of 2...with both making 250K...

As a matter of fact...an income of 250K in NYC with a family of four is middle class.....not even upper middle class.

That's only true if you live in Manhattan.

An income of $250K a year and a family of four can be quite comfortable in any of the other boroughs or even Long Island.

There are more millionaires who are democrats in the senate than republican. I am as middle class as anyone in this country and have benefitted from republican tax cuts each time. My experience has been that democrats do things to you, not for you! Every time they pass what they call "tax reform' my taxes have gone up. So much for being truly for the middle class.

When St Reagan signed the Income Tax Reform act in 1986, my taxes went up big time.

This country is all about class warfare, always has been. Its what capitalism is supposed to be about. The so called american dream is just that, a dream. If you can barely afford a house and barely afford to eat then you are living the american dream.

Perhaps......
So should we not worry about those that live in Manhattan?

Hmmm...

I went from living under the boardwalk to owning my own home and business.
My brother was not as fortunate with his decisions...but he lives in a nice apartment, has cable, 2 TV's owns a car....
My brother in law started with nothing when he moved to NY and now owns a modest home, has 2 children, 2 cars, 4 TV's...mnakes about 80K a year as a bank closer.
My grandfather came from Poland without a dime.....started a company....made a nice living....started a family...

Seems you are too wrapped up in criticizing the American dream that you dont actually see the american dream for its value.

Well, I grew up dirt poor, I mean we had 6 kids in a 2 bedroom house , no hot water , our toilet that did not flush. IT was bad. I grew up and now own a house, send my kids to college without student loans. Why because we worked hard for it . The American dream is not going to fall in your lap you have to work for it. Barney Frank thought it was a great idea to give everyone a chance to buy a home no matter if they could afford it or not. Sorry nothing in the constitution that everyone deserves to own home but you have the right to work for one and buy it . Everyone makes choices when they do their life. The thing about America today everyone thinks they are entitled to everything. Which is not true if you work hard and earn those things then yes you are entitled but if your not willing to work for them then you get what you deserve period!! Do I think some people need help but it should not be their life to get hand out after hand out. Welfare was not designed for that it was a stepping stool so people can get on their feet. So many people think its free money. Why work when the government is going to give them a check to sit at home. Just like the 99 weeks of unemployment so many people are just sitting on their arse until their 99 weeks is up. I know there are people out there truly looking for a job. But, it only takes a few to make it bad for the rest of us!

Why does America think the GOP only cares for the Wealthy?

Good question.

When someone makes that accusation, I notice that most, if not all of those on the right on the USMB, defend that position instead of denying it. They will say, "Rich people are job creators" or "Rich people already pay too much" or "Why shouldn't rich people keep what they earn"? Or they bring up socialism or communism or some other wild accusation.

But where do they talk about the Middle Class?

Where are their policies to help the Middle Class?

I know they ran on "jobs jobs jobs", but they also tell us that "government can't work" and "government doesn't create jobs". So what kind of help does that leave for the Middle Class? None?

Is the GOP solution for helping the Middle Class, "Don't help the Middle Class"? I honestly can't think of a single GOP policy that isn't geared toward the rich. If there are GOP policies designed to help the American Middle Class, what are they? No one can seriously run on, "You are on your own".

The proof is in the puddin'. With 6 years of complete republican control under Bush, there is not 1 bill that addresses the needs of the American people. And of the few bills that Bush did pass, no money was funded for them. That seems pretty clear to me.

This is a ludicrous statement. Anyone that has worked has paid taxes to support those programs, should they use them in their time of need, and a capitalist system ensures they are going to need them as the rich get richer and the poor get poorer.

Ahhh....you speak the truth....but you are new here. Those that disagree with you will argue based on theory and assumption.
Yes...all have the right to do what they please....I opted to struggle while I built my first business. My brother, on the other hand opted to spewnd what he made and enjoy life. 20+ years later and I own a home, sold my first business...own 2 others...have plenty of family time...sent my 2 boys to college...love my time with my wife.
My brother? Had fun when he was in his 20's....vacationed twice a year compared to NONE for me for the first 5 years....he then enjoyed his 30's with his bachleor life and not saving a dime...and now inhis 40's, he rents an apartment, has no savings and has no children...
And he blames business owners like me.
Sure, I have offered to help him....but as he put it..."I dont need charity"....as he goes to the ER for a stomach virus and been on unemployment for months.
Heck..I even offered him a job, but he refused to work Tuesday through Saturday....as he put it..."he has the right to have weekends".

No one believes that, not even you. And I would love for you to show me anyone who defends it.

As for what the GOP has done for the middle class, they passed the Bush tax cuts that cut taxes for everyone. The CBO said that the tax cuts for the middle class and the poor cost us $2 trillion dollars over the last 10 years. If that is not helping the middle class I have no idea what you want from anyone.

Yea, 52% to like 2% of the population. Duh!

Where are the "Jobs jobs jobs"?

You don't believe your own bullshit, right?

Huh?

I have explained this more than once. According to the CBO the "cost" of the Bush tax cuts was $2.6 trillion over 10 years. $2 trillion of that went to people making less than $200,000 a year. I don't know what planet you live on, but in the real world that is a lot more than 2% of the population.

Help me with the math. There are about 150,000,000 workers in America right?

Say the all got the same back. From 2.8 trillion. Trillions looks like this: 2,800,000,000. Am I right? Is that 2.8 trillion? So that makes about 15 dollars per worker?

Yet there are these articles like this:

What Millionaires Did with Their Bush Tax Cuts

And this guy says this:

"I do not know how much I've saved over 10 years but I'm sure it is several million dollars -- probably in excess of $10 million," said Egerman, founder of a medical transcription company called eScription.

"I've kept it," he said. "I have not done anything with that money."

So if the wealthy recieved so little, how did some end up with millions?

Because of the propaganda by liberals. The liberals Marxist/Socialist/Communist policies completely cave under debate (especially since their policies violate the Constitution). So they are forced to take the debate in another direction, ie falsely accusing conservatives of being "racist", of being for the "rich" and hating the poor, etc.

As Warrior102 stated above (and God Bless him for it) - you have no excuses in America except your own laziness. Nobody holds you back in America (although liberals and Obama are trying). Watch "The Pursuit of Happyness" and then come talk to me about "policies to help" anyone. The man was in complete poverty - homeless and hungry. And then he got tired of living that way and he did something about it. I wish the rest of you crying liberals would do the same. The statistics show that the more Socialist policies the liberals have created over the past 100 years, the more poverty this country has had - just like Cuba. You want to end the poverty - take away all of the programs that have removed motivation from those in poverty. Watch how quickly they better themselves when an endless supply of food, housing, and healthcare is taken away from them.

As Benjamin Franklin noted, "The best way to help the poor is to make them uncomfortable in their poverty". Once Chris Gardner became uncomfortable in his poverty, he did something about it. And he is now a multi-millionaire. Pretty much ends all excuses you whining liberals have...

So the only thing keeping anybody from being a billionaire is themselves? That is what you're saying? It seems kind of odd because I'm guessing you're not a billionaire or even a millionaire or make 7 figures.

Are you lazy?

I pointed out Chris Gardner as proof that nobody is holding you back in America and that a person in poverty can become a multi-millionaire if they work hard enough for it - and rather than address that, you're only response is some asinine question about being a "billionaire". I guess you have to reply with that asinine response since you have nothing to counter the undeniable fact that a man in complete poverty became a multi-millionaire without any help from the government. That pretty much crushes the battle cry of the liberal, which is "help me, help me, help me big Uncle Sam - I'm just a helpless little child who needs big government to provide everything for me and wipe my little chin for me when you're done feeding me".
That was funny; do you have any more jokes?

For the record - I'm not crying about my lot in life like you liberals are.
Please point out where I was crying about my lot in life.

[
I realize everything I have - I earned.
Bullshit. Nobody can say that. You didn't pay for the road outside your house yet you use it every day. So you're just a freeloader like everybody else in one sense.

[
And anything I don't have is completely my own responsibility. I have no desire to be a CEO, never wanted to be one, and thus the fact that I am not a billionaire like Bill Gates was my own conscious decision.
Ahh, so you decided not to be a billionaire. Gotcha.

[
Unlike you liberals, I don't blame the government, my parents, my neighbors, and Capitalism because I'm not a "billionaire".

Please point out where anybody blamed the government, their parents, their neighbors or Capitalism for not being a billionaire.

Generally, from reading any thead on this message board, the ones blaming the government for everything seem to be to the right of the political spectrum. Foxy blames the government for poor educational test scores. AVG Joe blames the government for a great many things. The list goes on and on.

[
You're asinine statement reminds me of one of the finest quotes of all time about you liberals:

"The whole gospel of Karl Marx can be summed up in a single sentence: Hate the man who is better off than you are, never under any circumstances admit that his success may be due to his own efforts, to the productive contribution he has made to the whole community." -Henry Hazlitt

Your assanine quote about making a conscious decision to "not be a billionaire" is the funniest thing ever. Keep up the good work.

When he signed the 1981 tax cuts, your taxes went DOWN big time, and your stocks went UP big time.

If you want to live like a republican, you should elect democrats.

What does 'rich people' mean to you, but more importantly, to the Democratic Party?

I have been asking that question for months, and still haven't had a difinitive answer.

Would one of these brilliant Liberals please tell us - at what point is one rich? Can you provide an annual income level / a baseline that draws the line between middle class and rich?

It's like porn, they can't define it, but they know it when they see it.

Now, if you don't mind, please go to this website and see who pays the most income taxes, and who pays the least.

Who Pays the Most Income Tax?

Once you've absorbed that, why don't you STFU about the "plight" of the middle class

Yeah that data is all true but it ignores...

Payroll taxes which are at 15% of income up to about $106K and then are zero after that rate. This significantly affects the tax load and final effective tax rate.

It also ignore capital gains taxes. Many, such as hedge fund managers, have shifted their income so it qualifies as capital gains. Those tax rates are 15% and in the case of someone like Warren Buffett make up the bulk of his income.

When you add total return from wages and capital and look at total taxes across income, payroll and capital gains the truth is very different than what you have posted.

So the answer so far is "screw the middle class"?

Dense much? You're the idiot who would kill the chicken for dinner instead of eat the eggs every day. How many jobs has a poor man ever provided? ZERO. How many jobs has a wealthy man provided? Many. Take care of the chicken and everyone gets to eat. Kill the chicken and no one eats.

Why the rich, dupe? Maybe because the top 2% have DOUBLED their wealth, the top1% has QUADRUPLED theirs, under Voodoo- that's Neocon Reaganomics DUH- while everyone else has gone NOWHERE- GD dupes...but you DO have to dig through huge piles of Pubcrappe to find little bits of fact...

I freely admit I am lazy. I hate the thought of all the work I would have to do to be rich.

Work? There is no work involved. All of those wealthy people stole that money while keeping the little man down. You know that!
