Why does America think the GOP only cares for the Wealthy?

Why does America think the GOP only cares for the Wealthy?

Good question.

When someone makes that accusation, I notice that most, if not all of those on the right on the USMB, defend that position instead of denying it. They will say, "Rich people are job creators" or "Rich people already pay too much" or "Why shouldn't rich people keep what they earn"? Or they bring up socialism or communism or some other wild accusation.

But where do they talk about the Middle Class?

Where are their policies to help the Middle Class?

I know they ran on "jobs jobs jobs", but they also tell us that "government can't work" and "government doesn't create jobs". So what kind of help does that leave for the Middle Class? None?

Is the GOP solution for helping the Middle Class, "Don't help the Middle Class"? I honestly can't think of a single GOP policy that isn't geared toward the rich. If there are GOP policies designed to help the American Middle Class, what are they? No one can seriously run on, "You are on your own".

No one believes that, not even you. And I would love for you to show me anyone who defends it.

As for what the GOP has done for the middle class, they passed the Bush tax cuts that cut taxes for everyone. The CBO said that the tax cuts for the middle class and the poor cost us $2 trillion dollars over the last 10 years. If that is not helping the middle class I have no idea what you want from anyone.

Yea, 52% to like 2% of the population. Duh!

Where are the "Jobs jobs jobs"?

You don't believe your own bullshit, right?

What does 'rich people' mean to you, but more importantly, to the Democratic Party?

I have been asking that question for months, and still haven't had a difinitive answer.

Would one of these brilliant Liberals please tell us - at what point is one rich? Can you provide an annual income level / a baseline that draws the line between middle class and rich?

Thanks...

I tried to pin rdean down on that once, and even showed him the numbers from the BLS about how the top 10% of wage earners actually includes the middle class. He accused me of not understand numbers and never came back.

Liar liar, pants on fire. I quoted John McCain.

John McCain is now an authority figure for you? You really are confused, poor dear.

Because of the propaganda by liberals. The liberals Marxist/Socialist/Communist policies completely cave under debate (especially since their policies violate the Constitution). So they are forced to take the debate in another direction, ie falsely accusing conservatives of being "racist", of being for the "rich" and hating the poor, etc.

As Warrior102 stated above (and God Bless him for it) - you have no excuses in America except your own laziness. Nobody holds you back in America (although liberals and Obama are trying). Watch "The Pursuit of Happyness" and then come talk to me about "policies to help" anyone. The man was in complete poverty - homeless and hungry. And then he got tired of living that way and he did something about it. I wish the rest of you crying liberals would do the same. The statistics show that the more Socialist policies the liberals have created over the past 100 years, the more poverty this country has had - just like Cuba. You want to end the poverty - take away all of the programs that have removed motivation from those in poverty. Watch how quickly they better themselves when an endless supply of food, housing, and healthcare is taken away from them.

As Benjamin Franklin noted, "The best way to help the poor is to make them uncomfortable in their poverty". Once Chris Gardner became uncomfortable in his poverty, he did something about it. And he is now a multi-millionaire. Pretty much ends all excuses you whining liberals have...

So the only thing keeping anybody from being a billionaire is themselves? That is what you're saying? It seems kind of odd because I'm guessing you're not a billionaire or even a millionaire or make 7 figures.

Are you lazy?

The three biggest obstacles to obtaining wealth are idleness, pride, and foolishness.

Outside forces are de minimus in comparison.

Why does America think the GOP only cares for the Wealthy?
Only liberals think that. According to Democrats, if we treat blacks like everyone else we're racists, women like everyone else we're sexists, think gays should be left alone neither condemned nor validated by government we're homophobes. Then when we want the rich to be treated like everyone else and not singled out for special abuse then that means they are the only ones we care about.

Liberalism, equality through governmental inequity. As stupid an idea as it sounds.

I always liked the flat tax, no loopholes, no deductions. You pay X percent of your income. How about it?

I am in complete agreement. And we should be paying less than 10%

Huh?

I have explained this more than once. According to the CBO the "cost" of the Bush tax cuts was $2.6 trillion over 10 years. $2 trillion of that went to people making less than $200,000 a year. I don't know what planet you live on, but in the real world that is a lot more than 2% of the population.

Come to think of it, that does explain a lot.

I would be comfortable paying a bit more but this is a good start.

I freely admit I am lazy. I hate the thought of all the work I would have to do to be rich.

It's a strange comment to make on his part...so I called him on it. I think you're right.

I pointed out Chris Gardner as proof that nobody is holding you back in America and that a person in poverty can become a multi-millionaire if they work hard enough for it - and rather than address that, you're only response is some asinine question about being a "billionaire". I guess you have to reply with that asinine response since you have nothing to counter the undeniable fact that a man in complete poverty became a multi-millionaire without any help from the government. That pretty much crushes the battle cry of the liberal, which is "help me, help me, help me big Uncle Sam - I'm just a helpless little child who needs big government to provide everything for me and wipe my little chin for me when you're done feeding me".

For the record - I'm not crying about my lot in life like you liberals are. I realize everything I have - I earned. And anything I don't have is completely my own responsibility. I have no desire to be a CEO, never wanted to be one, and thus the fact that I am not a billionaire like Bill Gates was my own conscious decision. Unlike you liberals, I don't blame the government, my parents, my neighbors, and Capitalism because I'm not a "billionaire".

You're asinine statement reminds me of one of the finest quotes of all time about you liberals:

"The whole gospel of Karl Marx can be summed up in a single sentence: Hate the man who is better off than you are, never under any circumstances admit that his success may be due to his own efforts, to the productive contribution he has made to the whole community." -Henry Hazlitt

So the answer so far is "screw the middle class"?

Small business owners are a huge part of the middle class. We have to sue Democrat precincts over voting abuses and vote-padding, which has run amok, rdean.

Big government is nobody's friend, it's just a self-perpetuating melee of people who want big salaries but don't want to work very hard for it.

Private business owners routinely have to do 80 hour weeks just to get by. Government workers may show up their 37 hours, but they aren't called on the carpet if they do 4 or 5 hours of real work a day to get a lot more pay than we get for 80 hours. We don't have time to text-message kids, relatives, friends, and such. We have to keep our noses to the grindstone until old age or bad health take us out.

The big government system is way out of control. We want our reduced fed back, and we're going to do everything we can to get it back. We're sick of no-call lists for Republicans (no confidentiality with the current right-to-know lists) and waiting in line for 5 or 6 damn hours while some fed airhead decides whether she will (1) help us with our IRS issue or (2) call 10 friends and shoot the fun breeze between assignments because nobody's damn watching the party because big government furnishes big private offices to people who used to have desks in a big open area where their actions and lack of action are obvious to da man.

Exceptional post freedombecki! The love and devotion liberals have for unlimited government is hysterical. First of all, they cry the loudest and act violent when a George Bush is running the nation, but then they keep handing the government more power - just to turn around and cry the loudest the next time. Additionally, when has government ever done anything right? They failed to protect us on 9/11. They fail to act fiscally responsible, spending us into a nation-collapsing $14 trillion debt. They fail to adhere to the constitution. But I guess none of that matters. As long as Dumbocrat politicians keep offering entitlements in exchange for more power and less freedom for the people, the greedy gimme-gimme-gimme liberal will continue to support unlimited, failed government.

According to Obama its 250K. I am REP and I am defiantly not RICH, grew up in poverty and now live middle class. We live within our means unlike the government. Its not a revenue problem , Washington DC spending problem!!!

I believe the answer is due to typical political rhetoric and spin.

The GOP are not a bunch of morons as the left likes to believe. They realize it is a no brainer to turn to the wealthiest and force them to pay for others entitlements; get the US out of debt; etc....

However, the GOP follows an ideology of the cosnervatives that all Americans are equal regardless of wealth...and there should not be legislation that is ONLY geared to people based on their wealth.

Furthermore, the GOP, following conservaitve values, believes in the private sector as the job creators...and they beleive it best to put as little government burden on business owners as possible.

If the "poor" were business owners, they, too, would be protected by the GOP.

But the title of this thread is a classic example of the spin that is out there...and the spin kills honest debate that is so necessary....

The GOP do not only care for the wealthy...they want to protect the business owners....whether they are poor or wealthy is irrelevant.

But of course, most are "the wealthy" and thus why it is so easy for those on the left to apply the spin.

"Rich" is not so easy to define by income level. You must include geographic location and family size.

One with a family of 4 in NYC is not nearly as comfortable as one in Iowa with a family of 2...with both making 250K...

As a matter of fact...an income of 250K in NYC with a family of four is middle class.....not even upper middle class.

Saying and doing are two different things. You were almost believable with the women and the blacks. Then when you started going on about how fair the right is with the gays, it became laughable.

Right, Pat Robertson is a Republican, therefore all Republicans are Pat Robertson.

The flat tax is better then what we have for sure, but the Fair Tax is far better as we'd no longer have an IRS to constantly invade your privacy. Also, it's the only tax that actually taxes the economy directly. Any time you track a derivative of the economy, like wages, you create winners and losers and that skews economic efficiency.
