Why Did Putin Press Sochi for the Olympics?

I don't know if these pictures show the reason but it's clear Sochi has been the destination of some really powerful Russians for many years. The summer palaces – dachas – are clearly not for the common folk. Uh, Wait a minute! Wasn't the whole deal behind communism something like equal stuff for everybody? How could this stuff happen in a leftist society?
