Who's bitter now, BO?

i never said americans found their guns abhorrent. i said I find them as such.

america was dangerous in colonial times. wild animals, indian attacks, etc. not the case now. many people own them just cause it makes them feel powerful, important. how dangerous would a city be if people didnt walk about with guns and knives? the problem is with people. carrying a gun to protect against violence is fighting fire with fire, but unfortunately that seems to be what it takes to deter criminals. if we could change people so they dont feel the need to carrying out violent crimes, people no longer need to carry guns for protection. as i said before, the problem is the users.

Ironically I read somewhere that gun ownership during colonial times was actually less than it is now.

How exactly the scholar who posited this factoid arrived at that theory I do not know.

Keep you guns, kids.

They won't help you much but hey, statistically only you or you family is likely to be hurt by them, so its no skin off my nose.

That's why I've thrown away all my knives, diconnected the electricity, corked all my forks, and padded every sharp edged object in my house with rubber.

IMO, it is just as unconstitutional to force people to own guns as to not allow them to do so.

What say you?

I don't know. It's sort of along the same lines as forcing a population to maintain weapons for the militia, as they did in the days of the Revolution. Settlers were required to keep and maintain weapons in good working order, and were required to participate in militia exercises.

I don't know how they enforced that, or even who enforced it, but it was a requirement, along with paying taxes.

You mean while we were actually at war and before the constitution was ratified?

I think the bitterness is in the mouths of the Gun control freaks, who feel
more gun control will reduce crime.

When I was stationed in Alaska we all had guns, it was natural, only thing that scared you was the jackasses who road on top of trucks armed during hunting season. If I ride my bike or public transportation in Philly there is no way in hell I want people armed. Has anyone here dealt with people, annoyed hot tired cursing each other, the only accomplishment of this fascist decision is more deaths. I posted some thoughts here.

She means from just about the day the English landed on this continent.

The militia did not just spring into existance because of the Revolutionary war. It existed LONG LONG before that. The British used to have a long history of militia themselves.

You are a retard. Your claims have been shown to be garbage over and over. We had a huge cry about Texas and how allowing citizens to carry guns would result in wild west shootings in the streets. Funny, that never happened.

Then there was Florida with its CC law, again the cry was " Ohh no" we will have chaos, murder and gunfire every where , it will be like Dodge City in the wild west. Wait, that never happened either.

Here in NC we had the same claims made when we got CC and AGAIn, no such thing happened.

Every where that CC has been approved there has been NO increase in shootings, no shoot outs in the streets or bars. In fact crime goes down when criminals think their victims may be armed.

I love your insistance that it is fascism to PROTECT rights. You are a broken record with ignorant views. I have an idea find a good socialist State and move there, obviously us Fascists that prefer our individual freedoms are to dangerous for you.
