i never said americans found their guns abhorrent. i said I find them as such.
america was dangerous in colonial times. wild animals, indian attacks, etc. not the case now. many people own them just cause it makes them feel powerful, important. how dangerous would a city be if people didnt walk about with guns and knives? the problem is with people. carrying a gun to protect against violence is fighting fire with fire, but unfortunately that seems to be what it takes to deter criminals. if we could change people so they dont feel the need to carrying out violent crimes, people no longer need to carry guns for protection. as i said before, the problem is the users.
Ironically I read somewhere that gun ownership during colonial times was actually less than it is now.
How exactly the scholar who posited this factoid arrived at that theory I do not know.
