Where's the "CHANGE" Obama?

February 2, 2011

"Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff will seek closer commercial ties with the U.S. in a bid to counteract the threat posed by cheap imports from China, a Brazilian official said.

China’s policy of undervaluing the yuan will be discussed when President Barack Obama travels to Brazil next month for his first meeting with Rousseff since she took office Jan. 1, said the official, who is not authorized to speak publicly on the matter.

Rousseff has signaled she wants to work more closely with the U.S. than did her predecessor Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva. On Dec. 2, she told Washington Post columnist Lally Weymouth she has “great admiration” for Obama, and in her inaugural speech to Congress said she hopes to “deepen” ties with the U.S."

"Americans gave automakers a confidence boost in January. They bought more cars and trucks and showed a still-fragile industry that they were ready to replace their clunkers in 2011.

Sales were expected to total around 800,000 for the month. That's still below pre-recession levels of 1 million or more, but better than last January's sales of 698,000.

Nearly all big car companies reported double-digit gains for the month, a sign that the slow recovery in U.S. auto sales that began last year remains on track.

"January signals a good start to the year for us, for the industry, and we think it's a good sign for the overall U.S. economy," said Don Johnson, vice president of U.S. sales for General Motors Co.

Car buyers were shopping for just about everything. Sales of recently redesigned SUVS such as the Jeep Grand Cherokee and Ford Explorer were strong. People also snapped up small cars such as the Nissan Versa and Honda Fit.

Pickups remained strong, continuing a streak that began last year thanks to growing demand from construction crews and other small businesses. Ford F-Series sales rose 30 percent.

The lowest interest rates in decades also spurred sales. Banks and finance companies have loosened up on credit in recent months, and people with good scores can get annual interest rates as low as 4 percent on car loans, said Paul Ballew, a former chief economist at GM who is now at insurance firm Nationwide. Plus, automakers are subsidizing loans so the rates fall even lower, cutting monthly payments.

"If you're paying more than more than 2 to 3 percent on a loan, you're probably not shopping hard enough," Ballew said."

Data Points To Stronger Growth Momentum

"Growth in the U.S. services sector in January was the fastest in more than five years, another sign the economy started 2011 on a solid footing, with measures of employment showing more strength.

Reports on Thursday, including a sharp fall in weekly claims for jobless benefits, painted a more bullish picture for the world's biggest economy as it recovers from the worst recession since the Great Depression.

U.S. inflation pressures appeared mostly under control even as commodity prices surge -- in stark contrast with other parts of the world -- helped by U.S. businesses keeping a tight grip on labor costs, the largest expense for most companies.

The Institute for Supply Management's index of national non-manufacturing activity rose to 59.4 last month, its highest level since August 2005, from 57.1 in December.

Economists had expected a dip to 57.0.

A reading above 50 indicates expansion in the service sector, which accounts for more than 80 percent of U.S. jobs, and it was the 14th straight month of growth.

The surprise pick-up in growth, which mirrored a similar acceleration in U.S. manufacturing in January, was further confirmation that the economic recovery was broadening."

"Obama outlined a plan in his State of the Union address last month to encourage clean energy technologies and to double by 2035 the U.S. share of electricity from clean energy sources such as wind, solar, nuclear and "clean" coal.

As part of that program, Obama announced a plan to improve energy efficiency in U.S. commercial buildings by offering businesses incentives to help pay for upgrades of offices, stores and other buildings, which he said consume 40 percent of the energy Americans use, and could save $40 billion a year.

"Making our buildings more energy efficient is one of the fastest, easiest and cheapest ways to save money, combat pollution and create jobs right here in the United States of America," Obama told a jammed sports hall at the Pennsylvania State University.

"To get the private sector to lead by example, I'm also issuing a challenge to CEOs, to labor, to building owners, to hospitals, universities and others, to join us," he said.

Obama's push for the United States to build a green economy is part of a global race to dominate what is seen as a potentially huge industry in solar, wind and other alternative energies that offer wealth and energy independence.

"If we want those jobs and businesses to thrive in the United States of America, we are going to have to out-innovate and out-educate and out-build the rest of the world," he said."

Just kidding. They have no answers. They caused the problem.

They have answers...just not the kind anyone wants for us,our families, or our Country...

I just watched a report about a campaign in Texas against a Jew because he wasn't a Christian. Weird.

It is pretty trippy when up to 90% of Jews are secular and promote secularism upon all nations to build their fortunes..... Orthadox Jews deny Christ and view Christians as unclean gentiles who do not count in the eyes of El-Yahweh...G-D.... Therefore, they can promote and profit from all manner of immorality and corruption they perpetrate against Christians.... Not much different than Islam in this respect....

Health Care Fraud's Most-Wanted List

"Health care fraud once was a faceless crime. Now it has a mug shot, even a smile.

Medicare and Medicaid scams cost taxpayers more than $60 billion a year, but bank holdups are more likely to get greater attention.

The government wants the public's help in trying to catch more than 170 fugitives wanted for fraud, so it's developed a new health care most-wanted list, with its own website — Office of Inspector General | U.S. Department of Health and Human Services . Most are dour; some sport smiles.

One name on the list is Leonard Nwafor, convicted in Los Angeles of billing Medicare more than $1 million for motorized wheelchairs that people didn't need. One person who got a wheelchair was a blind man who later testified he couldn't see to operate it.

Facing time in federal prison, Nwafor disappeared before his sentencing.

"We're looking for new ways to press the issue of catching fugitives," said Gerald Roy, deputy inspector general for investigations at the Health and Human Services Department. "If someone walks into a bank and steals $3,000 or $4,000, it would be all over the newspaper. These people manage to do it from a less high profile position, but they still have a tremendous impact."

Even though motorized wheelchairs can cost up to $7,000 apiece, Nwafor's scam was on the low end when compared with others who made the most-wanted list.

Scammers "often utilize their ties to a particular community," said Roy. "They take advantage of ethnic communities based on language barriers or lack of knowledge about how the Medicare system works. These folks are exploiting low-income communities."

Fugitive Susan Bendigo is accused of billing California's Medicaid program for $17 million in nursing care, much of which was performed by staffers who weren't licensed. A registered nurse, Bendigo was the nursing director for a company that provided personnel for home health agencies. Allegedly, she was fully aware that she was required to send licensed nurses to care for patients.

The FBI has the marquee most-wanted list, but the Environmental Protection Agency and other federal agencies also maintain their own.

Roy said he hopes this newest list will raise awareness about the importance of combating health care fraud. Medicare and Medicaid, which provide care for about 100 million people in the U.S., are in serious financial trouble and can't afford to be hemorrhaging tens of billions a year because of fraud."

Hedge Fund Managers Face Insider Trading Charges

"Three hedge fund managers, including the head of an $80 million fund raided by federal agents in November, and an analyst will be charged with insider trading, U.S. prosecutors and people familiar with the matter said on Tuesday.

The charges mark the latest development in a broad probe of hedge funds' trading activities. Authorities had previously brought criminal charges against eight people tied to a so-called expert networking firm who are accused of improperly leaking confidential corporate information to hedge funds. Tuesday's charges are the first against hedge fund managers in the probe.

Barai's fund was one of four raided by federal agents late last year when the trading probe was heating up. The raids shocked the $1.9 trillion hedge fund world, and were followed by dozen of subpoenas to hedge funds and mutual funds that did business with various expert network firms and consultants."

HERE

"Today, Barai and Longueuil were both charged with conspiracy to commit securities and wire fraud, three counts of securities fraud and with separate counts of obstruction. The U.S. said the conspiracy operated between 2006 through 2010.

In a Dec. 29 filing, the U.S. described two unidentified hedge fund portfolio managers at different firms who allegedly conspired with Jiau. The case is part of three overlapping probes stemming from the insider trading investigation of New York-based hedge fund Galleon Group LLC.

The government alleged that Jiau, 43, had conversations in May 2008 with the fund managers and provided them with non- public material information about Marvel Technology Group Ltd. and Nvidia Corp."

Dear Fellow Conservative,

Defund Planned Parenthood

Tell Congress our tax dollars have no place funding abortion.

Sign the petition.

Fifty three million lives have been snuffed out at abortion clinics around our nation since 1973, and it is time that we put an end to these murders. Just a few weeks ago, we remembered the thirty-eight year anniversary of the Roe v. Wade decision, and as a result we are reminded of the outrageous numbers of abortions occurring in the United States every year.

Planned Parenthood is a nationwide organization that supports and funds abortion clinics and operates on a billion dollar budget- and nearly a third of those funds come from the federal government! Your taxpayer dollars are being spent to pay for other people's abortions and we must defund them right now.

I hope that you will join me today by signing my petition to defund Planned Parenthood. After signing, please make a donation of $25 or more to Michele PAC so that I can reach out to other like-minded conservatives who agree that abortion is a crime and must be stopped immediately.

Planned Parenthood recently mandated all of its affiliates to operate at least one abortion center. An organization that disvalues life so blatantly must never receive a taxpayer penny. We must defund them today!

During my two previous terms in the House of Representatives I'm proud to boast a 100% pro-life voting record. Now in my third term in Congress, I will continue fighting for life, and I will do everything in my capacity in the House of Representatives to put abortions back on the decline.

Children are miracles, and it is our job to protect the unborn. Human life is ended each time an abortion occurs, but we can change this. Please sign my petition today to state that you stand with me to defund Planned Parenthood.

I have great hope in the new Congress that was sworn in earlier this month. Within the 112th is a prominent bloc of solid pro-life representatives. Work has already begun to bring value back to human life, at all stages, but we must work harder. Please let me know that you stand with me today.

Sincerely,

Congresswoman Michele Bachmann

P.S. Defunding Planned Parenthood will not only save our federal government hundreds of millions of dollars but it is also the moral thing to do. Please show your support to defund Planned Parenthood by signing my petition today.

U.S. Unveils $53 Billion In High-Speed Rail Plan

"The U.S. government will dedicate $53 billion over six years to build new high-speed rail networks and make existing ones faster, Vice President Joe Biden said on Tuesday.

The initiative will allow the Department of Transportation to choose corridors for the new projects and increase U.S. use of the passenger rails, the White House said in a statement.

President Barack Obama's budget for fiscal year 2012, which is to be unveiled next week, includes $8 billion for the plan. The rest of the money will be allocated over the six-year time period.

Obama has said he wants to target investments in areas such as infrastructure while reducing spending to tackle the budget deficit.

"As President Obama said in his State of the Union, there are key places where we cannot afford to sacrifice as a nation -- one of which is infrastructure," Biden said in a statement.

The announcement follows Monday's news that Amtrak, the United States' largest passenger rail service, plans a $13.5 billion commuter rail project connecting New York City and New Jersey, reviving an idea rejected late last year by New Jersey's Republican governor, Chris Christie, as too expensive.

Advocates say U.S. investment in high-speed rail lags many other countries and point to China, which plans to invest $451 billion to $602 billion in its high-speed rail network between 2011 and 2015, according to the China Securities Journal."

Montana Lawmakers Hear From Military...

"Montana legislators last week heard from an unlikely duo about how the United States must pursue renewable power and move away from fossil fuels: a retired U.S. Navy vice admiral and a Marine Corps colonel..

Dennis McGinn, a retired vice admiral who now works for CNA, a Virginia-based think tank, said the United States won't abandon traditional fuels like oil or coal any time soon.

But relying primarily on these fuels puts the country at risk militarily and economically, and the government should aggressively pursue development of alternative, renewable fuels
, he said.

"We need to, in an environmentally and sensible way, continue to access those extractive resources in Montana, for Montana and the U.S.," he said in an interview. "But to think that that is the only approach that we should take, that is going to sustain us into the foreseeable future, is very, very short-sighted."

Marines in Afghanistan must move fuel convoys through Pakistan, for many weeks, he said. For every 50 fuel and water convoys, one Marine is killed or wounded, he said.

To reduce the threat, the Marine Corps has been developing patrols that use renewable energy, such as small, flexible solar systems to power equipment that had been powered by generators, Charette said.

McGinn said he has studied the science on climate change, and is convinced the science is valid.

He said while the issue has become highly politicized, he noted that 95 percent of climate-change scientists believe change is occurring and is caused by man-made greenhouse gases.

"If I'm a Marine captain in Afghanistan and I've got 95 percent of the intel reports telling me there's a likelihood of a Taliban ambush over the pass that I'm going to escort a fuel convoy on, and I've got five percent of those reports that are table-pounding intel saying ‘No problem,' who do you think I'm going to listen to?" he said.

"Even if the guy who says ‘No problem' is right, the fact that 95 percent of the overwhelming evidence says there is a problem, prudence would dictate that you'd better be careful."
