What's The Best Opening Act You've Ever Seen

I don't know about "opening" acts...but this made me think of a club we had in our small town in Michigan called The Cobra. This was in the late 60's. I never realized until a lot later that we had so many groups there that ended up making it really big! We had Alice Cooper, Ted Nugent, The Zombies, Jefferson Airplanes, Santana...and i know many more! I get mad at myself for not paying attention!!!!! I was 15-17 yrs old and just cared about going out there, dancing and having fun...didn't pay attention to the bands really. What a dummy! Lol!

I don't usually go to shows that have opening acts, the artists stand on their own... However, when I saw Asia back in '82(?), they had a juggler open for them and I must say, I was either extremely high, a distinct possibility, or he was the best fucking juggler ever.

The best opening act I ever saw was Nirvana opening for the Chili Peppers at the LA Sports Arena.

The best opening act of all-time, was The Who at the Monterey Pop Festival opening for Jimi Hendrix.

Or maybe it was the Jimi Hendrix Experience opening for the Monkees?

That last one must of been quite a shock for all those mothers taking their pre-teen daughters to see Davy Jones and get this black guy, dressed like a ninja, fucking his guitar on stage.

I'll get the ball rolling.

Saw Loudness open for Motley Crue back in the day.
The place was wall to wall hair and no shit, Akira Takasaki (spelling? ya think?) did a fucking back flip from the drum platform down to the main stage while soloing and didn't miss a lick!

1984 (1978) lyrics
1984
Knockin' on your door
Will you let it come
Will you let it run your life?

Someone will be waiting for you at your door
when you get home tonight
Ah yes he's gonna tell you darkness gives you much more
than you get from the light.

Plexi-plastic eyeball, he's your special friend
he sees you every night
Well he calls himself Big Brother
but you know it's no game
You're never out of his sight.

1984
Knockin' on your door
Will you let it come
Will you let it run your life?

It's time you started thinking inside your head
that you should stand up and fight
Oh just where will you be when your freedom is dead
fourteen years from tonight?

Those plexi-plastic 'copters, they're your special friends
they see you every night
Well they call themselves protection
but you know it's no game
You're never out of their sight.

1984
Knockin' on your door
Will you let it come
Will you let it run

1984 Knockin' on your door
Will you let it come
Will you let it run

the Who won a coin flip to go on before Hendrix, who also wanted to go on before the Who....because he and Townsend were both going to destroy their Guitars and both wanted to be the first.....true story......

and back then their Drummer Ed Cassidy was like middle 40's and Bald.....something you did not see..... a bald rocker who was maybe the oldest guy in rock ....he is 89 today....still the oldest living rocker.......

My friend was at that concert. He said people started leaving after The Who, because they thought no one could possibly follow that set. Then Hendrix came out and they were climbing the walls to get back in.

Ed Cassidy was also the stepfather of Randy California, the lead guitar. I saw Randy playing rhythm guitar for Hendrix in Greenwich Village, the band was called Jimi James and the Blue Flames. Those were good times, I miss the '60s.

You're lucky I'm not a mod, I'd give you a two week ban for being the most hideous troll imaginable.

yea that was a big moment for both of their careers.....Pete Townsend said he was sitting front row with Mama Cass when Hendrix was playing and said he was the guy who picked up what was left of Jimi's destroyed Guitar and still has it today in a display.....i can imagine how much that broken burned Guitar is worth......
