A wall is semi-permanent. Sure it could be torn down, but the optics of doing so is just as damaging as having the wall in the first place. They can't simply give lip-service to border security and promise to fund it with more agents etc, only to not, and to easily pull back on patrolling efforts to let more in. The wall is a passive enforcement measure that is not easily bypassed and election results will no longer will matter to border security--from EITHER party.

The only thing I regret is the impact on wild life, but guess the heck what? .Every time humans build something it has a negative impact on wild life, and if you're aware of exceptions I'm all ears. It's up to the builder to provide due diligence. I'm not sold on flood issues, that's what engineers are for. As for the butterflies, they can move or build around it. Wouldn't be the first time something nice was ruined, sure won't be the last.
