I love MASH for the humor but I do have a problem with the ethos of the show, the idea usually voiced by Hawkeye that his personal angst is more important that the macro picture, the idea that the Korean War was some mad misunderstanding of bungling US generals and evil US politicians stumbled into.

That the US need never have been there at all and all would have been well.

Look into the extrodinary way General Mathew Ridgeway turned that war around, with humanism and fierce intelligence, (both American traits), observe the difference between democratic, free, prosperous South Korea and the starving nightmare that is the personal playground of the killer Kim’s and tell me that saving South Korea was not one of America's finest hours.

MASH is great comedy but it aspired to a wisdom it does not know.
