I'm backing into this in a weird way.

My wife and I have some friends that were trying to have a baby (not a fetus or a blob of tissue, oddly enough.) They had a very difficult time and went to see a fertility specialist. Along with the usual charting stuff, they had to get her very relaxed. Meditate, no stress at all. Massage to release Serotonin was supposed to help conception.

So - if stress levels affect it when trying to conceive, then the stress of being violently violated would have to have an effect as well.

Again, what Akin said was stupid, but I'll bet there was a tiny nugget of fact somewhere behind it.

No there isn't. As the link I posted shows, rape has a higher pregnancy rate than consensual sex.

Perhaps, but serotonin levels from stress have an impact. Real rape is a violent and stressful event. I don't know if he's right or wrong, but I suspect that he is more right than wrong.

I think this is what is really behind what that bonehead said. A lot of fundies have believed since the beginning of time that if a woman gets pregnant when raped it means she enjoyed and and had an orgasm....thereby insuring conception.
