Lets unpack the reasoning here:

Drumpf says he can’t release his tax returns because he is being audited by the IRS. ABC News reported just now there is no federal law that prevents such records from being released so, obviously, he’s lying about the “can’t”. Its more a “won’t” which is his right….

But the claim is rather hilarious. Like, what will the IRS learn if you make your information you filed with the IRS public. It would be much like your going to High School and wanting to take Chemistry II at the same university where you took Chem I. The registrar asks if you passed Chem I and you claim you can’t release the records because the registrar’s office is investigating your records. Duh.

Regardless of whatever the IRS is doing (we only have Drumpfs word which is meaningless), there are years that are not being audited (he’s been in business quite a while) that could be released immediately.

Here's the problem; Nobody who is voting for Trump is going to suddenly not vote for them just because they see his tax records. Additionally, nobody who is not voting for Trump will suddenly decide to vote for him simply because he releases them. Therefore he has nothing to gain to release them.

Suddenly? No. But if someone on the fence can be shown that he give $5 million to charity…wouldn’t that be a plus? If there is nothing shady (no offshore accounts, paid 20+ percent, etc…) that would be a plus.

Additionally…if you release it shows that you’re “playing the game” like the other candidates. The optics are favorable.

And then there is the downside.

Tonight they were not showing his shrill bitching about Hillary on ABC news. They were showing the silliness of his claim that he can’t release the records, Hillary talking about her having released 33 years, and showing Drumpf’s flip flops.

It won’t happen every night (of course) but it’s just another way that you get moved off of the attack—by having questions asked about you. I guess he can just claim whoever doing the questioning is menstruating….that worked in the past.
