What has your experience of corresponding with the congress critter been like?

I wrote a nastygram to the local congresscritter about the cap and trade fiasco. My main concern was they were voting on something they were clueless about. Not really a big issue. (My congresscritter is Earl Bluemenauer, who has not only divorced reality, but refuses to cash reality's alimony checks)

Anyway, I got a letter back from him. My letter was, I admit, not friendly and barely polite. But his response back was dismissive and insulting. I had a lot better luck writing to Senator's Hatfield and Packwood back in the day. The letters both ways were friendly, courteous and responsive, even if they they said no. (Not that many letters, I will admit. I am not that much of a goof)

If, over the years, you have written congresscritters, what has been your luck with it?

I write my members of Congress fairly frequently. All I ever get in return from then is the usual form letter kind of thing and my questions are rarely even addressed except in some general way mentioned in the form letter. I think it's mostly a waste of time because the Congress members from Illinois don't listen to anybody but do only what they please. I write because it's my right to address my Congress members.

I have written to my Rep, Earl Blumenauer, and the reply was considerate and agreeable. Same for Senator Wyden. I did not get a reply from Senator Smith. I gave Senator Smith my reply in the voting booth.

Won't bother.

The congressweasel where I'm registered is committed Fabian socialist do-gooder David Obey.

However, I will be in the district during the August recess, and if that smarmy little douche bothers himself to come out and listen to the hoi polloy, I'll be sure to show up with a pitchfork.

Never get replies from Durbin or Burris, or Obama before Burris, no surprise there. I do get on topic letters from Roskum. Henry Hyde too always sent an on message reply letter.

Roskum however does hold 'telephone conferences' where you may listen or participate. He's very timely to send out questionnaires of what his constituents think. I've never gotten one from my senators.

form letters
so its a waste of time to bother to write them
i will let them know how i feel at the ballot box
NONE of my current congress critters will be getting my vote in the upcoming elections

i email them and talk shit to them, its fun. form letters in return, which is what it is, but i still get to rub their faces in it. if you dont normally contact them then do yourself a favor email your rep and call him/her an asshole, dumb fuck, or whatever you like.

Same as others. I've written multitudes of letters, only to receive some lame form letter back, not even signed. Just something stamped that's been reproduced, probably times thousands to send out to all the other people dumb enough to think that writing to your senator or congressman might actually make a difference.

At least we can say we tried.

They do write form letters back to you but they still reflect how the congressperson is voting however. I signed up for Sherrod Brown's newsletter just to stay updated on what he's doing.

If I were in congress, I wouldn't be wasting all my time answering mail either. They don't have time for that.

which is why we need to change congress
they have too many people to represent to actually REPRESENT them

My Senators still send form letters in some cases, but my Representative doesn't bother anymore.
