Does Trump have recourse or what is the procedure?

Furthermore, as an aside, what if anything can Trump do to a GOP rep. for instance who didn't support his pick?

Any information would be appreciated.

It would take a Republican Senator to agree with the Democrats about not confirming a DJ Trump nomination. The GOP has 51 votes.

In that case it would be game over for that candidate. Trump would need to pick another.

Wow, that's harsh, almost doesn't seem fair.

What would the long term consequences be for that GOP senator if he went against the party and president? Would it just be isolation from the president, or would his own political requests suffer in the future? I know we can't predict the future, but in general, I'm trying to understand the outcome of such actions.

The protocol is the same for all presidential nominations. If congress rejects one, the president nominates someone else.

It is rare for congress to reject a cabinet pick. This isn't like a supreme court pick which comes with a lifetime appointment. Cabinet members are the people the president has selected as part of his management team. Unless there is something egregiously wrong with them, they generally get confirmed. Even when there is sharp polarization.

It's not likely any cabinet pick will be rejected by the entire Democrat side. There will be numerous Democrats who vote to confirm on principle alone. All of Trump's picks will be confirmed easily.
