What do you think the last government shutdown was all about? Conservatives are trying and all they get is vilified. Debt reduction is one of the main tenants of the TP and they too get vilified. What we know for sure is that maybe conservatives have not been able to effect change in the downward direction but the left sure has in increasing the debt.

The Republican Party can't push two talking points at he same time; we had Benghazi, then Bergdahl and the Clinton Book - all of which created an overload in the mind of their base. Fearing their base would blow a fuse they needed to put the debt on the shelf. Never fear, as we move closer to November all the wedge issues will be back - it will be gays, god, guns and character assassination; the birthers will be back as will the debt.
